Tracking Your Money in Cyberspace – Wheresgeorge.com

Do you often wonder where your money goes when you buy something? There’s this cool site called Where’s George and it’s a tracking system of where your bills go after you spend it. It’s fun and easy way to track your dollar bills of all denominations and if you are from Canada you can even track Canadian currency as well on the offshoot site called www.Whereswilly.com. It gives you a history of where the bill ends up at and each time you enter a bill you can see where that bill was last circulated and it’s really the coolest thing out here when you can track where your money goes and who ends up with it and even listing how they came about getting the bill. You can set up a free account at www.wheresgeorge.com and be sure the minute you get the bill to enter it on the system so that you can go back and review the path and time frame the bill traveled. If the pattern of the bill stops then chances likely the bill was taken out of circulation by the U.S. Mint because old bills are usually destroyed.

Where’s George went live on the internet in December 1998 and it’s been a runaway hit online ever since and the Canadian offshoot Where’s Willy went live on the internet February 2001. These are two very fascinating sites where you can track your money and see who ends up with the same bill in a different location, date, and time. I would like to see it where it tracks other currencies like the Euro and see where it goes and how it was acquired. This was probably the most fun thing you can do online for once in a while fun when you come across a ‘lucky’ bill with the red wheresgeorge.com. Unfortunately, the website doesn’t carry their official red stamp anymore due to legal constrictions of marking on the bill, but you will find a few bills circulating around with Where’s George stamped or written on. The history of how George and Willy got started is unknown unless you contact the company directly for a more concise history of the concept behind these two popular web sites.

Give it a try it’s a lot of fun and you get to see the journey the bill(s) you entered and who gets them. This is a fast growing site so check those bills because some of you may end up with one of those lucky fellas to enter online and see it’s history updated on a continual basis. You could be lucky and correspond with the person who was the last holder of the bill and I’ve been doing it going on 3 years now and it’s fun and neat to see where the bill(s) end up next or where it was last before I had gotten a hold of them. The fun is seeing a single bills journey through many states and maybe even a country or two and seeing how long it’s taken through each destination. The fun is all in how many bills you submit and going back periodically and seeing where that bill ends up next. Keep entering bills and see it’s history grow and you’ll be amazed at how you helped that bill on it’s journey to the next destination.
