I don’t know about you, but I enjoy visiting zoos with my family. There are quite a few nice ones in Georgia. Here are my picks for five of the best ones:
The Zoo Atlanta is located in Atlanta. One of the things that I like about this zoo is that it offers visitors a chance to enjoy a series of wild encounters. During some of the encounters, participants get to help feed the animals. The encounters can be a bit pricey ($35 to $185 per person), but I think that they are worth it. It typically opens daily at 9:30 a.m. and admission prices are reasonable ($18 adults, $13 kids).
Wild Animal Safari
The Wild Animal Safari is located in Pine Mountain. It is a drive-thru facility that features a wide array of animals. What I also like about the zoo is that you don’t have to drive your own vehicle through the park. I have visited drive-thru parks before where some of the animals have attacked people’s cars and broken off their vehicle’s radio antennas. As such, the idea of being able to use a facility vehicle to access the park appeals to me. The park generally opens daily at 10 a.m. and admission prices ($18 adults, $15 kids) are realistic.
North Georgia Zoo and Petting Farm
The North Georgia Zoo and Petting Farm is located in Cleveland. It usually opens at 10 a.m. Friday through Sunday. Admission fees tend to start at $5 for kids and participation in certain activities requires additional fees. As such, I’d recommend that visitors purchase the wildlife package ($25 adult, $23 kids) because it includes access to several areas. In my opinion, it is a better value. Other than the pricing system, the zoo is wonderful. The staff seems to take excellent care of the animals and there are even behind the scenes tours and wildlife encounters available for the more adventurous.
Wild Adventures Water and Theme Park
The Wild Adventures Water and Theme Park is located in Valdosta. It is quite popular with all the folks that live in my area because it combines so many activities into one. It is a water park, an amusement park and a zoo all rolled up into one. The only downside it that admission ($46 adults, $41 kids) is a bit on the expensive side. At least I find it to be pricey. The good part is that there are often deals available that help to lower the price. You just have to be willing to watch the facility’s website and area news for discount announcements. Price aside, the place is amazing. Personally, I adore the galago and bird exhibits. I find them fascinating.
Oatland Island Wildlife Center of Savannah
The Oatland Island Wildlife Center is located in Savannah and tends to open daily at 10 a.m. Admission is generally a modest $3 for kids and $5 for adults. I find the facility and the animals to be well taken care of. I enjoy watching the owls as well as the fox and the bobcat. I would definitely recommend the place to others.
