Top 10 Songs by Trapt

The story of Trapt started in California, when founding members Chris Brown and Peter Charell played their first gig in a high school performance. They started out small, performing in local gigs and clubs while recording a CD on their own.

In 2001, their hard work and determination finally paid off when they signed with Warner Bros. and released their first album, titled “Trapt”.

They have released 3 albums since then, excluding 2 of their self-released album before 2001. Their songs have evolved over the years, from the energetic, rebellious “Headstrong” to the haunting “The Last Tear”. I enjoy all their different type of music, with the top 10 being:

10. Stories

While it is not a single, “Stories” draws the attention of listeners from the initial guitar plays and follows it up with simple yet effective lyrics, reminiscing about the past, indicating how two people (presumably lovers) had so much in common, and what they did in the past.

9. Stand Up

This is the debut single for the band’s second album, “Someone in Control”. This energizing song urges people to stand up against whatever that is holding them down, and fight back.

8. Lost Realist

“Lost Realist” demonstrates an internal conflict and a very confused person. This is demonstrated from the bridge, which repeats the line “Why do I rush to slow down everything?” It reflects the internal struggles of teenagers who hope their lives will change for the better. The chorus plays on effective rhymes and is definitely one of the best choruses among Trapt songs.

7. Made of Glass

This is another Nu Metal song in which the singer is a lost soul in search for an identity. He says it explicitly, indicating in the chorus that “Am I made of glass ’cause you see right through me / I don’t know who I am, you’re the only one who sees that”.

6. Ready When You Are

This song is from Trapt’s latest album, “Only Through the Pain” and is considerably different from the other songs listed above. It speaks of a man waiting for a girl to recover from her previous emotional scars, indicating that he is ready to begin a relationship whenever she is ready. It has a gentle, reassuring chorus that will definitely take the hearts of many girls.

5. New Beginning

“I, I want to start, over again…” This is one of the haunting melodies from Trapt. The verses are very well constructed to give listeners a feeling that the singer is getting suffocated and seem to have nowhere to go, setting the song up for the need of a new beginning in the chorus. Despite the haunting melodies, some parts of rock are still evident and the mixture is blended in very beautifully.

4. Repeat Offender

This song starts out strong, and speaks of a Repeat Offender who wishes to be accepted back into society. However, society has since rejected him, and he has nowhere left to go. It is an emotionally charged song in which the singers truly put their shoes into a repeat offender’s point of view. The lyrics are also brilliantly done, playing on words and imageries while echoing the line “I am a repeat offender.”

3. Skin Deep

Similar to “Repeat Offender”, this song starts out and finishes strong. The singer is rebutting people who only look at appearances. It is very realistic, and meaningful, just like “Repeat Offender”.

2. The Last Tear

This is the last song in the album “Only Through the Pain”. It gives Trapt a very new look, and it is as meaningful as the previous 2 songs mentioned. The song follows a haunting melody, comments on the masks and misery of mankind in itself.

1. Headstrong

No list of Trapt greats is considered finished without “Headstrong”. The song depicts the band’s attitude towards music, and is their debut single for their debut album (excluding the self-released ones). The song is energizing and rebellious, and truly gives one the determination to carry on.

I have been listening to Trapt since I was in high school, and I continue to support their meaningful lyrics and emotionally charged songs even today.
