Toddler Birthday Party Games and Activities

Planning a toddlers birthday party should be easy right? That’s what I thought too until I began to research activities that my soon to be 2 year old could do at his party. Scouring the Internet I found very little toddler party games that my son could actually understand enough to take interest in. Through my own experience I, will list for you you a few toddler party games and activities that worked for us.

Balloons Have a Million Uses!

The night before my son’s party I blew up about 20-30 multi colored latex balloons. At the time I had no idea what we could do with them. Soon after the party began we did figure out some entertaining toddler games to do using our latex balloons.

*Keep it Up*

Try starting off with a game of keep it up! Simply take a balloon and throw it up in the air. The object of the game is for the toddlers to keep the balloon from hitting the ground. This game was a surprise hit! There were so many smiles and giggles from simply keeping the balloon from hitting the ground. Not to mention that the balloon was able to float slow which allowed plenty of time for them to keep the balloon in the air. This was a very easy toddler birthday party game that we will definitely repeat next year.

*Funny Balloon Walk*

This game is fun for everyone, adults included. The object of the game is to put the balloon between your legs and walk from one point to the next without the balloon falling out. This game seemed to get a lot of giggles as well. It helped the toddlers see how to participate when an adult went first. Not only is it fun but it’s really entertaining to watch those little hands try to maneuver a medium sized balloon through their little legs only to have it pop out when they began to walk. It was a huge hit and I would recommend this game to anyone who’s trying to find toddler birthday party games and activities.

*Static Fun*

I wouldn’t consider creating balloon static a toddler game but more of an activity. We began showing all the kids how to rub the balloon on their clothes. This was a simple activity that most toddlers could take part in by simply mimicking what you are doing. Show them how to rub the balloon on their clothes and then stick it to there head. It’s very easy and most every kid with hair could participate, and those with little hair could see what was happening with those who had hair. It was funny to here all the “woa’s” after this toddler activity.

*Who Can Hold The Most*

This is a simple game that all toddlers can participate in. Start with one balloon and hand it to the toddler playing, counting out loud hand them as many balloons as they can hold. The winner is the one who holds the most balloons without dropping them. Most all the toddlers liked this game and found it funny when they couldn’t hold anymore balloons.

Coloring and Traditional Games

*Pin the Tail on the Donkey*

Believe it or not this is a great toddler birthday party game. It helps if you have an older child or two at the party who can go first to show the younger kids how to participate. My son got this game right off the bat, and had such a great time being spun around in a circle. Not only was it fun for everyone but it was inexpensive, 99 cents is all it cost for the game.

*Pull String Pinata*

A pinata is not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of toddler birthday party games. Now however, they have created pull string pinatas. Every child gets a turn to pick a string and give it a tug. Whoever picks the right string releases the candy from the pinata. My advice is to hand every child a string of your choice to pull. At my son’s party I had an over excited 6 year old who decided to grab ALL the strings at one time before anyone else could get a chance. To avoid this kind of disappointment I would pick out the string for the child to pull. I can only imagine that if everyone had been given the opportunity to pick a string and pull that it would have been a huge hit.

*Themed Coloring Sheets*

Most kids love to color and an easy toddler birthday party activity is to print out coloring sheets for your party attenders to color. Many websites have printable coloring sheets that can be downloaded and printed for free. And you can easily pick a coloring sheet to match your party theme. Crayons are relatively inexpensive and you can even include them in your favor bags so clean up is as easy as throwing them in their bags when they leave.

*Side Walk Chalk*

A good final activity for your toddlers to take part in is side walk chalk. If the weather is right and you have a driveway or concrete back porch bring the gang outside for a fun artistic activity. This activity can be messy and if you want to use sidewalk chalk at your party I would suggest doing it last. My son did this with his toddler buddies and it was hard to keep him away from this activity. They all loved it so much.
