Things to Do in Roseburg, Oregon

History Attractions
Douglas County Museum of History and Natural History, located at I-5 exit 123 one mile south of Roseburg. There is admission fees and they are: adults $4.00, Seniors (55+) $3.00, And Students (4-college) $2.00. There is also a gift shop with a wide range of local artistry, food, souvenirs, and other gifts including educational toys.

Applegate Trail extends for one hundred miles through Douglas County. Traveling this historic trail will allow you to see Canyon Creek (near Canyonville), Dole Road (near the Myrtle Creek exit off I-5), Douglas County Courthouse (in downtown Roseburg), The Charles Applegate House (near Yoncalla). Oakland Historic District located 15 miles north of Roseburg. Oakland was a agricultural and shipping center. Visitors can experience historic buildings, homes, pioneer cemeteries, antiques, art and gifts shops. Self-guided walking tour brochures are available at City Hall.

Natural Attractions
Crater Lake National Park was once known as Mt. Mazama. It is now America’s deepest lake. There are many activities that you can do in the park such as: Volcano boat cruises that begin on the 4th of July weekend and end on Labor Day. The tour begins at Cleetwood Cove lasting for 1 hour and 45 minutes. There is a trail to the Cove that is a 1.1 mile hike. Rates from 2006 were adult $24.50, adult with Wizard Island drop off $29.50, child (age 3-11) $15.00, child with Wizard Island drop off $18.00, Infant (under 3) no charge, Special school group tours $10.00 per person.

Camping is located at the Mazama Campground near Highway 62 at the Annie Springs entrance. There is 211 campsites. Open from mid-June until early-October. Lost Creek Campground 3 miles off the East Rim Drive. It has 16 campsites for tents only, cold water faucets, and toilet facilities. Open from mid-July until mid-September.

Hiking trails ranging from easy to strenuous with more than 90 miles to do. The trails can be hiked in one day. There is also 33 miles of Pacific Crest Trail that offers beautiful views of the lake.

Fishing is year-round unless the weather does not allow safe access. Kokanee Salmon and Rainbow Trout are in Crater Lake. Fishing licenses are not required. You and only use artificial lures and flies.

Bicycling is a popular activity. There is a 33 miles Rim Drive that has a long narrow road with steep grades.

Diving can be done by certified scuba divers. If you are going to dive you are required to have a diving permit. Permits are free and you can get thing from the ranger station.

Winter activities include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. 9 different skiing trails are available with ranging difficulty.

Other activities are: Klamath Museum, Baldwin Hotel Museum, Favell Museum of Western Artifacts, Klamath Falls Bird Sanctuaries, Russ Raglan Theater, river rafting, fishing guide, wildlife viewing, snowmobile guided tours, Lava Beds National Monument, golf, and horseback riding.

Diamond Lake is located off Highway 128 approx. 79 miles east of Roseburg and just 5 miles north of Crater Lake National Park. Some summer recreations include:
Fish boat renting. These are best used for trolling or still fishing. Rates are $50.00 all day, $40.00 for half a day, or $20.00 per hour.

Patio boats are a good way for the whole family to go out on the lake to fish or sightsee. Rates for patio boats are: $175.00 all day, $90.00 for morning half day, $125.00 for afternoon half day, or $35.00 per hour.

Sea cycles are a good way to take a quiet tour. Renting is $15.00 per hour.

Paddle boats is the classic way to tour and rates are just $5.00 for half hour or $8.00 per hour.

Bumper boating is a great way to have fun with for the entire family. Rates are $3.00 for the operator plus $1.00 for each passenger.

Mountain biking is available with 12 miles of paved bike paths around the lake. Rates are $28.00 for 8 or more hours, $22.00 for 4 hours, or $8.00 per hour.

Kayaking is available is single and double passenger styles at $10.00 per hour.

Horse back riding is available from June until the snow starts falling in the fall. 1 hour rides are $25.00 per person, 2 hour rides are $50.00 per person, 3 hour rides are $60.00 per person, all day rides are $125.00 per person.

Campgrounds include Diamond Lake Campground, Broken Arrow Campground, and Thielsen View Campground.

Arts and Music
The are several art galleries. One of them is the Umpqua Valley Arts Center and Gift Gallery. There is also live music that plays at Music On The Half Shell concert series. It is an eight show concert that runs on Tuesdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Stewart Park from mid-June until mid-August.

Recreation
Kayaking, rafting, paddle boats, and drifts boats can be done on the North, South, and main Umpqua Rivers. There is also boat access points at those spots. Bike paths are located throughout the city of Roseburg. There is many hiking trails available throughout Douglas County. Maps can be picked up at the Roseburg Visitors and Convention Bureau, Umpqua National Forest, and Bureau of Land Management offices. The Wildlife Safari is a good place to take the entire family to see exotic animals from around the world. At the Wildlife Safari you can go to the White Rhino Restaurant, Casbah Gift Shop, Safari Village Exhibits, picnic area, campground, or ride the train. If you are looking to watch a movie, there is 2 cinemas that you can go to. Harvard Cinema and Cinema 8. The Roseburg area has 3 golf courses. Roseburg Municipal Golf Course at 1005 W Stewart Park in Roseburg. Roseburg Country Club at 5051 Garden Valley in Roseburg. Oak Hills Golf Club at 1919 Recreation Lane in Sutherlin. There is also a YMCA. You can find 6 wineries to visit.

Graffiti weekend happens in July. There will be many classic cars driving through town. Another great place to see classic cars is at the Sutherlin Blackberry Festival.
