The Tower of Americas in San Antonio, Texas: A Breathtaking Experience!

San Antonio has a great gem of a restaurant known as The Tower of the Americas. The Tower of the Americas is located in downtown San Antonio, Texas, and it is definitely not hard to find. Somewhat recently, The Tower of the Americas had a few renovations done to it that transformed it from a sight-seeing tower to a full-fledged restaurant. My husband and I wined and dined at The Tower of the Americas on our honeymoon. We absolutely loved every aspect of the experience. The only problem was the parking. It’s hard to find good parking in downtown San Antonio, much less good parking near The Tower of the Americas…but we managed just fine.

The Tower of the Americas is 750 feet high into the air. From a distance, you can see the elevators making their long way up to the spaceship-like dome that sits on top of the enormous column. Not only does The Tower of the Americas contain a very posh-posh dining area and sight-seeing terrace, it also has a four dimensional theater that delights most of your senses, not just your visual one as in regular movie theaters! These movies are themed with the good ol’ state of Texas in mind. To get on the observation deck of The Tower of the Americas, the price is close to eleven dollars, and it is a little less for children and those with military identification cards. The Tower of the Americas is divided into three sections which are: The Skies over Texas, The Flags over Texas and The Eyes over Texas. The Skies over Texas the four-dimensional theater ride. The Flags over Texas hosts the excitingly breath-taking observation deck, and The Eyes over Texas is the home to the restaurant and lounge area on The Tower of the Americas. The restaurant in The Tower of the Americas gives you a 360 degree view of San Antonio as you dine in an upscale setting. You may think that it may be a nauseous experience…and at first I thought so too! But it turned out to be astoundingly beautiful, especially if you dine at The Tower of the Americas in early sunset through the evening and night. The Eyes over Texas restaurant in The Tower of the Americas seats 250 guests, and there are also 75 more spaces for more guests at the bar. All of this sophistication and uniqueness does become reflected in the price, however. When my husband went to The Tower of the Americas for our honeymoon, we spent one hundred dollars on a three-course meal, including a delicious martini called The Hurricane.

An absolutely delectable appetizer my husband and I shared was the Shrimp and Crab Fondue. It may sound a little strange, but it is tantalizing to the taste buds. It is composed of fresh garlic bread, which you dip in a bed of very warm, delicious cheese that has little portions of shrimp and crab embedded in it. This stuff was addicting. We also ordered the N.Y. Strip Steak, which came with wonderfully-prepared mashed potatoes. The N.Y. Strip Steak was great, but a word of caution as to how you order it’s “doneness”: My husband and I both had our N.Y. Strip Steak ordered as medium-well, but it was a tiny bit too…raw…for my taste. So if you do order any meat-containing dish as The Tower of the Americas, make sure to specify exactly how you want it cooked. It was great, though! The meat was very tender and there was no disgusting fat to ruin the taste. At The Tower of the Americas, my husband and also ordered the Tower Chocolate Soufflé Dessert. If you decide to try this yourself, you will find that it will be the best chocolate dessert you have ever introduced in your mouth! The chocolate was warm and bountiful. I’m sure I gained a few pounds that night at The Tower of the Americas! The restaurant’s wine list is quite extensive, as well as their mixed drink list. The Hurricane appealed to me more simply because it was made with fruits, such as cranberries…and it was a very light and celebratory drink.

The service overall was wonderful. I even felt awkward when our waiter used a special little device that resembled an old-fashioned blade razor to remove crumbs from the table that I caused when devouring the fondue mentioned earlier. The staff was extremely polite, and the manager that day even shared a bit of small talk with my husband and I. We definitely felt welcome and special, even though we aren’t exactly rich or high class. The experienced at The Tower of the Americas allowed us to taste a little bit of the upper-class life as reasonably and beautifully as possible.

I would definitely and highly recommend The Tower of the Americas to anyone who has a great event to celebrate, as well as a fatter wallet to spare. Be prepared, however, to leave an appropriate tip for the courteous waiter. I would suggest that you get a view right by the window so that you can have a full view of the wonderful, twinkling lights of San Antonio as you dine in the air of excellence.
