The Top 5 Most Reliable Cars of 2010

Finding a reliable vehicle isn’t something as simple as picking an automaker out of a hat. Notice that you will find only one American made car in the top five most reliable cars of 2010. Sadly for American automakers, this is even after the millions of recalls done by Toyota and Honda. The good news for American made car companies is that Consumer Reports show GM and Ford are gaining on the Asian and other foreign-powered automakers. The question is will they catch them. For now the answer is no, but kudos to Ford for cracking the top five. Take a look at the most reliable cars 2010 had to offer.

1. Toyota’s Scion TC – The most reliable car of 2010 goes to Toyota’s Scion. The Scion TC has a MSRP in the low to mid $17,000’s. It provides a great combination of quality, safety and a little bit of giddy-up with its’ 2 .4-liter four-cylinder engine. The major con that comes with the Scion TC is it only gets 29 combined MPG. That is noticebly lower fuel economy as compared to other cars in its class.

2. Porsche Boxster – Do you want realabilty, class and speed all in one vehicle? If so, the Porsche Boxster might be the car for you. Porsche boasts that the Boxster goes from 0-60 MPH in 5.6 seconds and handles like a dream. For a non-family vehicle, the 27 miles per gallon isn’t too rough on the wallet, but be warned; the MSRP for the base model will set you back $47,6000.

3. Ford Fusion Hybrid – Looking for a reliable American made car? Surprise! We actually found one just for you. The Fusion Hybrid’s price tag of $28,100 might sound a little pricey at first, but one look at the savings you will have on fuel could change your mind. How does 41-MPG city, 36-MPG highway, and 39 MPG combined sound?

4. Toyota Yaris – I first heard of a Totota Yaris in an episode of Smallville, as it was the vehicle of choice by Chloe Sullivan. I kept seeing the car pop up again and again in television shows and movies. Guess what? There is a reason that they kept being used on all kinds of television shows and eventually flooded the streets. This Toyota model has an impressive MSRP from the mid $12K-mid $13K’s. Yahoo Autos shows the Yaris getting 28-MPG in the city and 34-MPG on the highway.

5. Honda Acura RL – Honda might not make the top five with its’ Accord or the Civic, but it still finds a way to have a car in the top five most reliable cars of 2010. There were actually a few Honda models that were considered for this spot, but the Acura RL stood out as the best of the bunch. The Acura RL will not come cheap. It has a MSRP starting at $46,830 and will cost a bit at the pump, as it only gets 18-MPG combined. So why is this such a nice vehicle? For the simple reason that the cars run great without any minor new car hiccups, and time has shown that they will last this way for far longer than the average vehicle. It has a 3.7 L. VP 300HP engine and the interior is fit for a king. This car is reliability meets luxury.

It is rather shocking that Toyota and Honda combined for 60% of the top five most reliable vehicles of 2010, even with all of their documented issues in 2010. Their recalls have helped other automakers gain and shorten the gap between the top five and ones knocking on the door, but decades of reliability have still helped Toyota and Honda push through the recent troubles. It will be interesting to see if in 2011, they will remain in the top five or take an even bigger blow.
