The Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner Toy: A Good Learning Toy for Children

Toddlers and preschoolers love to mimic adults, particularly their parents. My son, who is 19 months old, loves nothing more than to work along with mommy as I go about household tasks. The Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner toy was the perfect choice for him. The Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner is a very realistic looking vacuum cleaner toy that will have your toddler thinking he or she is just like mom or dad.

Pros. The Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner toy has many more pros than cons. First of all, the Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner looks just like a real vacuum cleaner. It is, in fact, eerily similar to my own vacuum cleaner with its removable see-through canister, red and black body, and pretend extension hose. The Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner toy also sounds like a real vacuum cleaner. Just flip the switch on the back and your toddler will really think he is vacuuming. Perhaps most remarkably, the Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner toy even really picks up dirt! Don’t get too excited; your toddler won’t be doing the normal household cleaning with this toy, but there is a slight suction action that does remove some dirt to the removable canister. It just doesn’t get much more realistic than that!

The Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner toy is affordable with a price tag of about $30. While this toy is recommended for ages 4 and up, my 19 month old does perfectly well with it, though he doesn’t always treat it like it is a vacuum cleaner.

Cons. There are just a few minor cons to the Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner toy. The biggest problem with this pretend toy is the tendency for the batteries to get knocked loose. As with all toys intended for young children, the batteries are housed in a screwed on area of the toy. If the body of the Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner is allowed to drop to the floor (which happens frequently when a 19 month old boy is the owner), the batteries almost always get knocked loose, causing the vacuum cleaner to stop “working.” This is annoying to the parent who has to constantly find a screwdriver to reinstall the batteries. The only other problem with the Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner toy is that the pretend hose attachment isn’t detachable at all. When my son sees me detach my vacuum cleaner hose, he wants to detach his and often spends quite a bit of time trying to loosen a piece which is not intended to come loose.

Overall the Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaner toy is a great pretend toy for toddlers who enjoy mimicking their parents and who enjoy pushing toys with wheels. For realism, nothing beats the Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum Cleaner.
