Back in December, Peter Jackson revealed that he’s still set on directing his own “Adventures of Tintin” entry, and, now, Steven Spielberg has chimed in to confirm that the duo are indeed working on a follow-up.
In an interview with The Times of India, the Spielberg provided an update. He’ll still be along as a producer while Jackson directs, and the two already have a script. Furthermore, he envisions starting the performance capture “probably at the end of the year” since he and Jackson are “hoping to have the film come out around Christmastime in 2015.”
Furthermore, Spielberg teased the storyline that will be used for the sequel and hinted that the duo have mashed up two of Herge’s original books. However, he also insists that they’re “combining two books which were always intended to be combined” by the author.
It should be noted that Spielberg also said that he shouldn’t be held to that 2015 release date, which is fair. After all, Jackson is extraordinarily busy at the moment; not only is he prepping “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” for release later this year, but he’s still got plenty of additional shooting to do to round “The Hobbit” into a trilogy.
Jackson’s timetable at least lines up with Spielberg’s, as he also indicated that he would shoot the motion capture stuff in 2013 as well. If he does and is also able to get the film ready for release in 2015, he will have released four films in as many years by that point, so Jackson fans could be in for quite a treat.
On the other hand, Spielberg’s own schedule opened up a bit recently, as his adaptation of “Robopocalypse” was tabled; meanwhile, Chris Nolan nabbed “Interstellar,” another sci-fi project Spielberg was eyeing. However, he’ll stay busy, as he also discussed his plans to produce an unnamed movie that will be set in India.
Spielberg only revealed that “part of [the film] will take place on the India-Pakistan border in Kashmir” and added that his production team was currently working out who will star in and direct the film.
