Stella Rosa Red Wine

One of the things that I most look forward to on the weekends is a nice glass of wine, if I am lucky champagne. This last weekend my husband and I came across a new wine in our spirits store that looked promising called Stella Rosa. It turned out that our selection was one of the top rated ones in the store and was a great red wine.

Intrigued we purchased the Stella Rosa Il Conte D’Alba for around $8.99 and went on our way. Not that we are alcoholics but as every weekend goes we rushed home to try out this new wine. Following our fixation with Italian wines, this wine was signed with approval from the Denominazione di Origine Controllata, or better known as the DOC certification in Italy. This certification assures consumers that the certified wine follows good grape growing methods, in addition to the high quality of taste that it produces. It is hard to get this certification, which has to be done every few years. Most wineries do not want to go through all the bother of getting officials out to the winery, so if an Italian wine has this certification, it is worth the money.

With high expectations, we immediately opened this red wine bottle. It was no surprise that there was a great bouquet that fills the nose as you sit around the bottle. It is from the Piedmont region in Italy so it is no surprise on the quality of fragrance. Although it is considered a red wine, I would like to consider it a rose or an entry-level red wine for the smell and taste. This is on the fact that when you pour the wine into a glass, it is a light pinkish/red color much like a rose wine. In addition, I would call this an entry-level red wine because it is on the sweet side with no tannic scent.

When we both tasted the wine for the first time, we were not let down on the fantastic taste. At first, it tastes like there is almost a tinge of bubbles that fill the palate. Every sip thereafter we did not notice the slight bubbles however in the beginning they were definitely there. So, if you like champagne, you will like this wine for the bubbles. As for the taste, it reminds me of the popular Rosa Regale from Banfi. It is sweet but with a slight after taste of tannic hints. It is not a strong tannic flavor though; a new beginner would not notice the slightly sour taste.

This entry-level red wine is just a true gem that many people have not found out about until now. It is a red wine that everyone should try just once since it is unlike others in the red wine category. For me, it was a slight bit too sweet, compared to what I usually look for in a red wine. If I were going to have a party, I would serve this red wine chilled along with cheese and crackers. It is also perfect for a hot summer’s night when you are looking for something to cool down after a long day.
