Some Reasons to Stop at Doris Italian Market & Bakery in Coral Springs, Florida

Doris’ Market and Bakery, Coral Springs, Florida is located off of University Drive. It’s in a major shopping center right next door to Michaels. There is always ample parking and it is wheelchair accessible. It’s open 7 days a week with 6 locations, Sunrise, Hollywood, Plantation, Pembroke Pines and Boca Raton as well as Coral Springs.The first Doris’ was started as a meat market in Hollywood, Florida in 1947. Getting to Doris on the week end usually means bucking a lot of traffic since University Drive is an extremely busy shopping area, I would recommend visiting Doris’ during the week if possible.

When you walk through the automatic doors the smell is divine. Doris’ selection of fresh baked breads and pastries, deli delights is just delightful. You take a number and point out what you’d like.

You enter the fresh produce section on your right and the produce is artfully arranged in stacks. There are always bargains to be had. The bargains are not damaged items they are just well priced specials of the week or day.The produce comes fresh from the farms every morning. This week you can get 4 Navel Oranges for only $1.00 and a string of Figs is only $2.99. You can check the weekly full page ad in the Sun Sentinel for specials of the week.

There are aisles and aisles of imported gourmet foods. There are wonderful Italian vinegars, jams, canned goods, pastas and desserts. Doris’ sells its own own oil and coffees as well as other brands. They carry Lamonica Calamari, Imported La Florentine Pannetonne from Italy, Lira Vinegar, Torrone Almond Nougat Candy and more. The Pirouline coookies are $4.99 here and $5.99 in T.J. Maxx proving once again, that Doris’ is a gourmet store without the gourmet prices. They also carry Italian novelties amd kitchen ware. They sell Pizelle machines, espresso coffee pots for instance.

There is an area to pick out refrigerated drinks, soda, Starbuck’s and the like. You can pick out fresh made salads at the salad bar,not the lettuce, tomato variety but pasta salad sides.

The meats are like works of art. The color is so fresh and the selection is excellent. They carry Choice USDA, Silver Certified Prime beef, Milk fed Veal and homemade Sausage. Everything is custom cut on the premises. Ground Turkey is only $1.79 a lb and Turkey wings are .69/lb this week. Porterhouse or T Bone Steak is an astonishing low $8.99/lb. You can buy Goose or Duck here, Braciole, Crown Roasts and Standing RIb Roasts.

You can buy home made fresh Locatelli Romano Cheese grated to order, and made on premises Mozzerella. They have Cheeses from around the world and a selection of olives.. The Deli offers Boars Head meats, prepared foods for anyone who wants a wonderful lunch sandwich or food to go for dinner like Chicken Milanese. There are stuffed grape leaves, DiLusso Genoa Salami or Rosa Grande Pepperoni. Dry Sausage and Sopressate are offered in the Deli.

The seafood is so fresh there is never any odor to the area. They carry Stone Crab, Lobster, Mahi Mahi and Shrimp as well as a great selection of fresh catch.

The Bakery is an Italian Bakery. They have wonderful fresh baked breads, Black and White cookies and a large assortment of butter cookies They will make wedding cakes, complete platters of cookies and pastry trays to order. For the Holidays the Bakery offers specialties like Strufoli , honey balls, Italian Cheesecake and Holilday cakes. We buy a few of the Ciabatta breads and freeze them since Doris is a bit of a trip for us, well worth the effort but still a trip.

Doris will cater any affair from a wedding to an office luncheon. They will provide a complete wait staff, bartenders and carving stations. They offer planner and consultations.

You can purchase a wine to go with your meal and this week Bolla Italian wine is available at 2 for $19.99 for 1.5 liter bottles. They carry Martini & Rossi, they carry beers, Chardonnay, Rieslings and Doris own Italian wines , Pinot Grigio, Cabernet, Chianti and Merlot. Her wines are $6.99 for 750 ml.The cheese section has excellent cheese to go with your wine and you can finish this with a variety of imported crackers. Liqour is not available at the Plantation store.
