Snack Review: Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Crackers, Mild Cheddar Flavor

When you think about macaroni and cheese you get the image of a bowl of pasta mixed with delicious cheese sauce. What if the macaroni and cheese was transformed into crackers? When I saw the box of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Crackers in mild cheddar flavor I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Ever willing to try a new product, I figured why not.

Availability and Price:
They can be found at major grocery stores and cost almost $3.00 for a 8 ounce (227 grams) box. In addition to the mild cheddar flavor they also currently come in Cheddar and White Cheddar flavors.

Nutritional Facts:
The serving size is 44 pieces and the servings per container is about 8. For each serving there is 150 calories, the calories from fat are 60, the total fat is 7 grams, saturated fat is 2 grams, zero grams of trans fat, 2.5 grams of polyunsaturated fat and 1.5 grams of monounsaturated fat. There is less then 5 milligrams of cholesterol, 310 milligrams of sodium, 35 milligrams of potassium, 18 grams of carbohydrates, less than 1 gram of dietary fiber, zero grams of sugars and 3 grams of protein.

Ingredients:
The ingredients in the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese crackers are enriched flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate {vitamin B1}, riboflavin, {vitamin B2} folic acid), cheddar cheese (made from cultured milk, salt and enzymes), soybean oil, partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil, tapioca dextrin, salt, leavening ) baking soda and/or yeast), natural flavor, vegetable color (annatto extract), and malted barley flour.

Warnings:
Contains Wheat and milk for those of you that have allergies.

Smell:
There’s a slight waft of cheese if you stick your nose in the bag, but that’s about it. As far as holding up the cracker to my nose and taking a whiff, I would have gotten more of a cheese smell had I stuck the product up my nose. There was basically no smell to it.

Look of the product and it’s packaging:
It resembles the box of macaroni and cheese that Kraft makes. The crackers resemble the macaroni and cheese after it’s cooked.

Taste:
The flavor is okay. Not great, but okay. I expected more of a cheese punch to it considering that it’s crunchy baked cheese crackers in mild cheddar. I asked for a second opinion from a relative and got the same opinion. They add a nice light cheese flavor if you throw them in some tomato soup though. However, eating them as a snack I’m not so thrilled. They’re a little too salty for me as well.

Final thoughts:
I can take this product or leave it. Considering I’m not that excited about it, I’m probably going to leave it and not buy them again. However, since I don’t hate them, I’m going to suggest giving them a try, you may just love them.
