Savannah, Georgia’s, New Dining Hot Spots

Savannah, Georgia, has seen a burst of new businesses come onto the scene recently; here are four awesome new places to grab a drink and great food.

Fire Street Food

The owners of Ele Restaurant, Tangerine, and The King & I have ventured downtown with this hip, brightly colored restaurant in the heart of downtown Savannah only steps away from popular local hangouts like Gallery Espresso and McDonough’s. Fire Street Food’s menu includes sushi rolls for only $5.95, crispy wings, and Kobe burgers cooked before customers’ eyes in the open kitchen. Beer, sake, and wine are also served, plus a few unexpected items like Sean’s ribs and mac and goat cheese. This spot already has people talking.

Foxy Loxy Café

In the artsy Starland District, Foxy Loxy Café is one of my new favorite places. Outdoor seating out front and large street-side windows provide excellent people-watching perches, while the back patio and other cozy interior nooks makes it perfect for reading, working, studying, and conversation. But the real draw is the food – described as “Tex-Mex gourmet” – with taco shells that walk the line between hard and soft filled with wonderfully seasoned meats, lots of creamy crema, and fresh salsa-style toppings. Their airy chips and homemade guacamole are excellent for snacking, and beer, wine, lots of coffee drinks, plus baked goods and even a few breakfast choices make this a fun new addition to Savannah’s dining and hangout options.

Maxwell’s

Formerly Sugar Daddy’s, this cozy space located steps away from central City Market is a great place to enjoy wine, small plates, and conversation. Maxwell’s exterior looks like an ideal home, and the inside retains that feel with separate rooms that feel like someone’s living and dining rooms. Classy without being imposing, the owners are very personable, and it’s perfect for a date night or girls’ night out.

The Sparetime

A trendy new spot on the prime corner of Congress and MLK Jr. Boulevard, The Sparetime is a retro-style, open setting with excellent nibbles like tapenades, cheeses, and inventive pizzas. The small menu pairs delightfully with their old world wine list and classic cocktails like their top-notch sazerac and Harry Nilsson. It’s gotten a bit of buzz thanks to one of its owners being part of the beloved Café Metropole, which had to close years ago due to its decaying structure. So far, people seem to be embracing this new establishment.
