San Diego Museum Art Classes

The San Diego Museum of Art is a prime resource for the citizens of San Diego who have an interest in art classes. Located at 1450 El Prado in Balboa Park the San Diego Museum Art Classes offer a wide array of classes to adult and children throughout the year.

Though many of the adults enrolled in the San Diego Museum Art Classes are educators, the program is open to anyone. Teachers with California credentials however do receive credit through the California State University San Marcus. Scholarships are available through the San Diego Museum Art Classes Program.

The San Diego Museum Art Classes for Adults includes Drawing and Painting: Still Life and Nature, Watercolor, Painting: Landscape, Beginning Sculpture, Introduction to Studio Arts, Introduction to Crafts, Explorations in Drawing, and Albers in the United States: Artist and Teacher. The price range for the classes varies from $65.00 up to $195.00 per class.

The San Diego Museum Art Classes for Youth are offered through the year for different age groups. For ages 5 through 6 the San Diego Museum of Art offers Artistic Beginnings: Color and Collage. This is a basic class where students learn to cut, draw, paint, and color while learning design basics. The fee for the Artistic Beginnings San Diego Museum Art Class is between $35.00 and $45.00.

The San Diego Museum Art Class that is designed for teens is the Y2 Teen Portfolio Workshop: Painting. Developed for teens between the ages of 13 through 18, students expand their art skills with different paint media and their relation to each other. The fee for attendance is from $50 up to $60.00.

Another excellent class that is part of the San Diego Museum Art Classes is the Y3 Painting 101, which is designed for children ages 10 through 12 years of age. In this unique class students have the opportunity to work with canvas, panels, paper, sketching, composition, brush technique, line and color and more. The fee for attendance in the Y3 Painting 101 is from $50.00 to $60.00.

In the San Diego Museum Art Classes Y4 Artistic Explorations: Drawing and Painting for Life students ages 7 to 9 years of age have the opportunity to experiment with a different media and theme weekly. The fee for attendance ranges from $40.00 to $50.00.

The San Diego Museum Art Classes also offer Y5 Artistic Beginnings: Line, Shape, and Color designed for student’s ages 4 to 6 years of age. The goal of this class is to focus on fundamentals and experimentation. The fee for attendance is from $35.00 up to $45.00.

The Y6 Artistic Explorations: Survey in Sculpture designed for ages 7 to 8 years of age is another of the excellent San Diego Museum Art Classes designed to expose children to the Museum sculptures and gardens.
