Ruby Nightclub- Chicago’s Newest Hotspot

If you can remember what the nightclub at 151 W. Ohio used to look like, forget all that. Ruby Nightclub, Chicago’s newest hotspot, has had more than a good scrub down to get it looking this sleek.

If you want to be guaranteed of a good time on Saturday night, rest assured, Ruby does not stop partying from the time the door opens till last call at five in the morning. The DJ does not let up all night, if there is a song with a beat that will get a crowd moving, you will hear it. As for the crowd, it appears the beautiful and trendy people of Chicago were hand picked and sent invitations to the club, so come dressed to impress.

The dance floor of Ruby takes center stage, flanked by the main bar in the back and two smaller bars on each side. Go-go dancers strut their stuff in the center of the floor while the rest of the populace dances around a few transfixed males. For private parties or the VIP guest of the night, there is an upholstered cove overlooking all the action, but it does not provide much privacy.

If privacy is what you are after, lead your date to one of the bars on either side of the dance floor. Behind the curtains is plenty of ruby red furniture, more reserved seating for private parties is towards the front of the club. The fourth and less crowded of the bars is immediately to the right of the club when you enter. There is very little lighting in this corner and it is probably the only spot in the house where you can carry on a conversation, I suggest looking to the picture art for a conversation starter.

Even though the music is hot and the crowd hotter, I was still looking for something that made Ruby stand out from every other downtown night clubs. I found it at the bar. Finally there is a bar in Chicago where it is possible to get a drink without having to wave a sign in front of the bartender for thirty minutes, no matter how packed the place gets. Every drink placed in my hands was good! To be sure it wasn’t a fluke I sampled from every bartender, hit every time. Best part, unlike other downtown nightclubs, Ruby has not let their location get to their heads or the prices. Amazing- I know.

As soon as the bouncers direct the dance floor oglers to the standing area and management turns some attention to the ladies room the place will be perfect. The line outside is guaranteed to grow longer and longer all summer, but once inside the wait will be worth it.
See you at Ruby!
