Review: Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Pretzels

About a year ago a Target store opened up near us, and I have been thrilled at being able to find all sorts of foods that I cannot find at Fred Meyer, and the Target prices are so reasonable!

Last week I had Pepperidge Farm Goldfish snack crackers on my list, because they were on sale for $1.79 for each 6 ounce bag (I am claiming Epinions series rule here, since the 6 ounce size is not in the database).

My daughter used to love Goldfish cheesy crackers when she was small, but I didn’t realize that Pepperidge Farm makes these in so many different flavors and varieties! I had two coupons for any Pepperidge Farm products, one was $1 off and one was 50 cents off, making this buy a great deal. I purchased a bag of Goldfish Garden Cheddar and a bag of Goldfish Baked Pretzels.

Product Description

Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Pretzels look very similar to the original Goldfish cheese crackers. The goldfish on the front of the bag is wearing sunglasses, and the bag is colored with purple accents instead of orange. The size of the pretzel on the picture of the bag is almost identical to the actual size of these little morsels. In comparing the pretzel version to the cheese version, the pretzels seem to have much less salt (although that is not the case), and the pretzels are a little larger and a bit puffed up.

These are baked treats, with no artificial preservatives, and are called “Natural”. They contain zero grams of the bad trans fats. These snacks come in a foil lined bag which helps keep them fresh.

Nutrition Facts

One serving size of Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Pretzels is a generous 43 pieces. (For comparison, a serving of the garden cheddar is 55 pieces). One serving of the pretzels contains 130 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, only 0.5 grams is saturated fat, there are zero grams of cholesterol, 430 mg of sodium (cheese version has 290 mg of sodium), 24 grams of carbohydrates, less than one gram of sugar and fiber, and 3 grams of protein. It also provides 8% of your daily allowance of iron.

Taste

I love pretzels, always have, and these are a great tasting snack! Since I am watching what I eat these days, I find it works great to put a serving size in a baggie, and this way I can keep track of my calories during the day. By the way, a serving size is about a half a cup of pretzels, so it’s not as large as I thought it would be. 43 pieces sounds like more than 1/2 cup does, eh?

Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Pretzels look just like pretzels, they are medium brown and are covered with large specs of salt. A lot of my pieces actually had the white marks on the fishies from where the salt used to be, but it had fallen off and sits on the bottom of the bag. For this reason, I consider these to have much less sodium than stated in the nutrition facts label.

I love crunchy foods, and these Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Pretzels really satisfy my craving for a crunchy snack, but they are a little bit addictive (hence the need to measure them out, or I’d eat the entire bag in one sitting!).

It’s clear from the design of the bag that this food is geared toward children. The back of the bag has four fish, all with names. The name for the pretzel fish is Gilbert. There is an area to draw a picture on the back of the bag, and it says to “draw something that made you feel good”. There is a link to two websites on the package. One for kids which says you can have fun and games with each visit, and one for parents.

To conclude, these are a great snacking food that I find very satisfying. A lot of taste and crunch in every little goldfish.
