Review of Speck See Thru IPhone Case

When I purchased my iPhone, it didn’t take long to get addicted. Before I knew it, I was using Twitter, surfing the web, and looking up admittedly pointless trivia almost all the time. It also didn’t take me long to realize that I needed a case-a near miss between my iPhone and the sidewalk helped convince me of the need to purchase a case. Since coming to that realization, I have tried several different iPhone cases. I have always been one to purchase different backpacks and shoulder bags, so it is really no surprise that I have made a similar habit out of purchasing iPhone cases.

One case that is impressively sleek for the price is the Speck See Thru case. The Speck iPhone case-which fits the newer 3G iPhones-is a reasonably priced case that will get the job done for most iPhone users. It completes the major function of a case: protecting your iPhone if you accidentally drop it. The case is a hard translucent plastic shell that comes in two pieces that conveniently snap together. Once the case is on your iPhone, there is access to all major ports and controls. In addition to the fitted plastic shell, there are rubberized “no-slip” rails that will keep the phone from slipping when you adjust the controls. Overall, it’s a good case for someone concerned about simply dropping his or her iPhone. Aside from its functionality, the Speck See Thru case comes in a number of great color choices including clear, black, pink, red, purple, and green. The color choices and minimalist design goes great with the already sleek iPhone.

While the case looks nice and there are quite a few color choices available, there are a few downsides to the Speck See Thru cases. For starters, the cases offer no screen protection. If you want to have your screen protected, you will need to either look elsewhere or purchase a film to put over your screen. I’d argue that this is a rather significant drawback, as part of the reason to purchase a case is to protect your iPhone-and the screen is arguably the most important part. Additionally, you cannot synchronize or dock your iPhone while the case is on. Instead, you will need to remove the bottom of the case. While this is slightly inconvenient, it’s offset somewhat by the fact that you can use the bottom piece as a stand to hold your iPhone horizontally while it is docked. This stand is also a nice feature for watching videos as it is easier than holding your phone. Two further downsides are that the case does not include a belt clip or holster, which other cases sometimes include and many people find to be convenient.

I have seen several different cases by the company, but this is my favorite Speck iPhone case. While there are a few drawbacks-as detailed above-it’s a solid case overall. Sure, I wouldn’t recommended it to someone prone to damaging their phone-for example a construction worker-but it works well for someone that carries their phone around in a bag or pocket and uses it throughout the day.
