Review: ANNIE Professional Hair Care 9 Inch Loop Rod Hair Rollers

I have naturally wavy hair. I do not have nice curly locks, I have straight up wavy, thick, out of control, and frizzy hair; for the most part. If a girl with hair like me wants curls we have to either straighten it with a flat iron, then use a heated curling iron, or we have to add in half a bottle of gel, and scrunch.

I had never considered hair rollers until I stumbled upon an interesting concept at my local drug store. They were called ANNIE Professional Hair Care 9 inch Loop Rod Hair Rollers. All I had to do was wind a lock of hair around this long flexible rod, twist, and go. Yeah… easy!

I bought the bag which consisted of 12 rods in a blue and pink color. The rods themselves are 9 inches long, with 3/8 inch diameter.

My Use:

I planned on taking a shower, and then applying the loop rods. I figured if I let my wet hair dry around the rods it would curl better, and last longer. I was hoping that the rods would allow me to skip the process of using tons of gel, or straightening, then curling.

Applying the rods were actually a lot harder then it appeared to be. I had to start at the top and wind a piece of hair around the rod. After the hair was spun around the rod, I had to fold the flexible rod up and twist it into itself in order to get it to stay in my hair. This took practice, because most of the time the rods would slip at the top and begin to unravel. In some cases the whole rod would just fall out.

Even when you thought you had the rod in, you were screwed over by the elements. As the hair began to dry, it got softer…when it gets softer it has a looser grip, and eventually it would slowly unravel itself from the rod. Ruining the curl, resulting in a frizzy tipped slight curl.

The overall experience sucked, and the rods that did stay in managed to make half assed curls that had no hold at all.

Trial 2:

I assumed perhaps I should of blown my hair dry while the curlers were in my hair, so my second trial with ANNIE Professional Hair Care 9 inch Loop Rods Hair Rollers would be to do just that.

After a shower I again applied the curling rods, and this time instead of air drying, I blew my hair out, thinking that maybe the heat would give the curls a better longer lasting hold.

Result:

Nope. Even blow drying gave the same crappy half ass results. I got a frizzy curl, that had barely any hold.

Basically my whole $6.00 purchase was wasteful. I couldn’t return them, and the whole ‘idea’ I had for perfect curly hair was tossed into the nearest garbage pail.

Overall:

ANNIE Professional Hair Care 9 inch Loop Rod Hair Rollers suck. I’m sure the ANNIE roller rods are not the only crappy rolling rods out there. There are slews of other name brand rod rollers on the market, and they all work the same, seeing how they are all made the same.

I honestly cannot see these stupid rods working for anyone, as the hair will twist out no matter what hair type you have. The hold of the curl is also as lame as it gets, and will result in even more wavy frizz.

Recommendation:

The rolling rods sounded, and looked like a cool new way to add curls to my hair, but it turned out to be another one of them modern cool ideas, that don’t work.

I can’t recommend them to anyone. They don’t work.
