Quick Living Room Redesign Tips

You’ve decided your living room needs a makeover. But you don’t want to spend money on new furniture, artwork, or accessories right now.

Below are some quick interior redesign tips you can use to give your living room a new look right now, and without spending a dime.

Living Room Redesign Tip #1: Pull the Furniture Away From the Walls

Any room can benefit from this redesign technique. Pull the furniture away from the walls. Group the sofa, chairs, coffee table, etc. into a conversation area. If there’s a large area rug in the living room, place it so that it defines this area, and make it look more pulled together.

If you’re worried that your room is too small for this redesign technique, don’t worry. Pulling the furniture away from the walls in a small room can actually help to make the room look bigger and more spacious.

Living Room Redesign Tip # 2: Choose a Focal Point

During your redesign, try to give the living room a focal point, whether it’s the fireplace, a window with a great view, or the television. A focal point will make a room look more unified.

Living Room Redesign Tip #3: Try Different Groupings

You can create different “nooks” in your living room. For example, you can set a comfortable chair and small table over near the window to create a reading area.

Living Room Redesign Tip #4: Group Accessories

If you have little knick-knacks and accessories spread all over the living room, pull like-items together in odd-numbered groupings of 3 or 5 for a more unified, cohesive look. Group five candles together on the side table. Group three vases together on the mantle. Group a small collection of framed photographs together on an end table. But don’t worry about the items matching. A grouping of vases that are different sizes, shapes and colors can be very appealing.

Living Room Redesign Tip #5: Borrow Items from Other Rooms

Interior redesign is all about using items you already have in new and interesting ways. So, think of items in other rooms that can add interest to your living room. The cedar chest in the guest bedroom could be used in place of the coffee table. The old, wooden coffee tray you’ve never known what to do with could be set on the ottoman.

Living Room Redesign Tip #6: Reposition Your Artwork

As a general rule, artwork should be hung at eye-level. More specifically, the center of your artwork should be about five feet from the floor. This will allow everyone, no matter how short or tall, to appreciate paintings and photographs.

Living Room Redesign Tip #7: Remove Items That Clash

Take a look around the living room. Are there any items with colors that make them stand out from everything else? Then think about removing those items from the room. The items in the living room don’t have to match exactly. But items that clash dramatically with everything else can draw attention away from the rest of the room.

Interior redesign is the perfect way to give your living room a quick makeover. All you have to do is look at the things you already own with new eyes.
