Product Review: Sunsilk Anti-Poof Hair Products

For hairsytles that tends to poof out during the day, Sunsilk (Helene Curtis) has created a new product line, appropriately called Anti-Poof.

The description on the SunSilk shampoo bottle described my hair on certain days perfectly: “Does it dry in a pyramid shape?” While anti-frizz products work for the top layer of fly-aways, anyone with a thick and un-layered hairdo knows that as thick hair dries, it can also seem to poof out exponentially.

Active Ingredients

The essential active ingredient in the Sunsilk Anti-Poof product line is the Jojoba Oil, which is basically a liquid wax. The Jojoba Oil works to control hair without adding extra weight.

Product Claims

“Hair expanding into a PYRAMID? Control it. Sunsilk Anti-Poof Conditioner with Jojoba Oil hydrates to help seal the hair fibers and prevents your hair from expanding. The result? Soft, smooth hair that doesn’t POOF.” (Helene Curtis)

The true test of any styling product is how the hair reacts and respond without a complete styling. In other words, how well does the styling product work when the hairdo is allowed to air dry. The Sunsilk Anti-Poof products do keep hair from poofing out as it dries, yet hair does not look greasy.

Packaging

The Anti-Poof Shampoo, Anti-Poof Conditioner and Anti-Poof Creme all come in bright blue bottles. The Sunsilk people subscribe to the same cutesy and marketing school as the Herbal Essences “None of your Frizziness” people. The product packaging also reflects their recognition of savvy consumers product awareness. The packaging also taps into a consumer’s reliance on product packaging color to remember exactly which product to buy, with its “get the blue one” stamped on the free sample.

It’s necessary for the Sunsilk and other hair styling product companies to include these type of reminders when they have so many products on the shelves. It’s no longer enough for a consumer to simply remember which brand of hair styling products to buy, they need to remember which product lines work best for their hair.

Sure enough, after using the free product sample (sent via Walmart.com), I went looking for “the blue one.” The only problem with these brands producing two or more products for each product line is that not all stores will carry each product line, or “color,” or all of the products in those lines. The Anti-Poof shampoo and Anti-Poof conditioner were easy to find, but the lotion was nowhere to be found.

Price

The Sunsilk Anti-Poof products cost each cost between three and four dollars at Wal-mart. They may be significantly more at the local drugstore.

Reason to Buy

The best reason to buy shampoo, conditioner or creme Sunsilk Anti-Poof shampoo, conditioner or creme is that they work. Another reason to buy the Sunsilk Anti-Poof lotion is that not only can it be added to wet hair, it can be added to tame the hairstyle a little more once it is dry, without adding a sticky or greasy feeling.

Reason Not to Buy

The biggest downfall of the Sunsilk Anti-Poof product line is that the initial scent is less than pleasant. There is a moderately strong chemical scent, which can be unpleasant for anyone sensitive to smell. Fortunately, the negative scent dissipates quickly.

Overall, the product is a definite buy for anyone with a poof problem.
