Product Review: Jeff Foxworthy Premium Quality Beef Jerky – Teriyaki Flavor

I wrote “Little Known Facts About Comedian Jeff Foxworthy” and I mentioned in the article he has his own line of greeting cards, calendars and beef jerky. I finally got the chance to taste the latter. Here’s my “Product Review: Jeff Foxworthy Premium Quality Beef Jerky – Teriyaki”, to let you know what I found out!

Introduction
Beef jerky has “more than doubled in popularity since 1997”, according to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and why not? It’s a pretty healthy snack that can help satisfy those hunger pangs. I like to nibble on it in between meals, or later in the evening when I’m hungry, and don’t want to eat a bunch of calories before I go to bed.

Product Description
First thing I have to tell you, is, it’s hard to miss this product in stores because Foxworthy’s picture and name are displayed prominently on the front of the bag. The bags are four ounces- “10% MORE Than 3.65 oz. Size!” as a bright red sticker on the front tells you. I found this product for three bucks at Big Lots.

On the front of the bag, it also says, “Great Taste with a Southern Accent.” And, Jeff Foxworthy Premium Quality Beef Jerky – Teriyaki is also described as “Made With Solid Slices of Beef- Natural Smoke Flavor Added”, “96% Fat Free” and “High in Protein.” There’s another, smaller picture of Foxworthy on the back of the resealable bag with the humorous advice, “Wipe hands on pants before eating.”

Ingredients
This brand and flavor of beef jerky basically contains: Beef, Brown Sugar, 2% or less of Salt, Natural Smoke Flavor, Water, Hydrolyzed Soy and Corn Protein Blend, Fructose, Sodium Erythorbate, Soy Sauce, Pineapple Flavor, Sodium Nitrate. I must say the “Pineapple Flavor” surprised me. I’ve tried several different brands and flavors of beef jerky before, but have never seen that in the ingredients.

Nutrition Facts
Each four-ounce bag of Jeff Foxworthy Premium Quality Beef Jerky – Teriyaki contains four – one-ounce servings. Each serving contains 80 calories; 1 gram Fat; 0 grams Trans Fat; 30 milligrams Cholesterol; 390 milligrams Sodium; 7 grams Carbohydrates; 0 grams Fiber; 6 grams Sugar and 11 grams Protein.

Taste Test
I think I’ve found a new favorite with the Jeff Foxworthy Premium Quality Beef Jerky – Teriyaki. The taste is pretty comparable to other brands I’ve tried. What sets this food product apart is, the beef is more tender. Beef jerky is usually pretty rock-hard. You tear a piece off and put it in your mouth, and it takes a bit of chewing to get it to become pliable. I didn’t need to chew this brand of jerky as much. The meat was easier to tear off and it wasn’t as tough as other brands I’ve tried.

On the other hand, I shared some with my friend Ken, and he didn’t like the way this brand of beef jerky falls apart so fast. I guess he likes to “chaw” on it for awhile. He did agree the Teriyaki taste is very good, though.

So, there you have it. If you like a more-tender snack, then pick up a bag of Jeff Foxworthy Premium Quality Beef Jerky. But if you prefer a tougher jerky, then buy another brand.
