Product Review: Fisher Price Little People Sweet Sounds House

The Fisher Price Little People Sweet Sounds House is a classic, imaginative, creative play set. It features several Little People characters, including Fluffy the Cat, a mom, a dad, and a baby. Moveable furniture includes a bed, stroller, kitchen table and two chairs. The house features several sounds including a telephone ringing, a busy signal, cats meowing, a lullaby song, and a baby saying “mama”. Rooms in the house include an office, bedroom, kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, and a play room. The set also includes a DVD with three story segments which use the Little People characters.

This play set is a great addition to the Little People line produced by Fischer Price. My son as well as my daughter love playing with this house. They love pressing the phone to hear the ringing sound, or the baby’s crib to hear the lullaby. The house has several objects that can be manipulated by small hands. The front door opens and closes, as does the lid to the washing machine and the door to the refrigerator- even the toilet lid can be lifted and shut!

The colors used for the house are bright and cheerful and it is truly a pleasant toy to have lining the shelf in your child’s bedroom. It also closes compactly for storage, or opens wide to connect to other play sets.

There are many places within the house that the Little People characters can be placed. The tub, toilet, bed, crib, office chair, moveable chairs, and sitting chairs placed by the window all provide different areas in which your children can place the characters for imaginative play. If you have any other Little People characters, they can easily be added to the house to provide more options for creative use of this toy.

A few cons:
1. The sound function on this toy is set pretty low. This is nice if you are tired of loud, obnoxious toys, but you may want to have your child play with this toy on a hard floor or table to get better sound quality.

2. You must apply the stickers to the house yourself. The stickers have a strong adhesive, so you need to do this very carefully. Also, there is no guide for where the stickers should be placed, so you have to go by the shapes on the house and common sense (brightly colored rug in the bedroom, food sticker in the fridge, etc.).

3. The sound function does not extend into the wings of the house. It would be great if you could hear water running, the toilet flushing, or the dryer running, but the sound only runs through the main section of the house.

4. There is one bed for the mom and dad. Call me a prude, but I much prefer the earlier House that included two separate beds for the parents. You don’t have to share my opinion, but I like the idea of putting them in separate beds!

After buying the Little People Zoo, Farm and Ark, the Little People Sweet Sounds House was a natural addition to our set. It has received hours and hours of use and our children show no signs of becoming bored with it. The house retails for around $30.00, but we got it for $25.00 on sale. If you like Little People, you should invest in this fun, imaginative play set.
