Picnik’s Facebook App

For all Facebookers who love looking at photos, or editing their own to use on their Facebook page, Picnik and Facebook have made it even easier. In a previous article, I looked at how to use www.picnik.com to edit, save and upload photos to your Facebook (or other social networking sites). Picnik has created an app that lives right on Facebook and allows you to edit photos that have been uploaded to your Facebook and resave them without ever going back to the computer you uploaded them from or having the original files. This means you are now able to edit anything you’ve uploaded to Facebook from anywhere!

To get started, you’ll need to add the Picnik app to your profile. Log in to Facebook and do a search for Picnik or go to http://apps.facebook.com/picnik/. If you haven’t used the app before, it will ask you to allow it to access certain parts of your profile, just like other apps. (If you say no, you can’t use the Picnik app.) Next, the app will try to link your Facebook profile to your Picnik account using the associated email addresses. If you haven’t already created a Picnik account, the app will ask if you’d like to do so and walk you through a brief registration. It’s easy, and free, but of course there’s an option to subscribe for a few additional services. This isn’t required for your profiles to be linked.

Using the app right in Facebook also allows you to edit any of your friends’ photos. The default that is shown is always your photos and photo albums, but you can adjust to any of your friends and any of their photo albums using the drop downs on the right side. Any edits you make will be saved to an album you create or choose on your own profile, not theirs.

If you’re using a computer that has photos you wish to upload, you can do this without ever leaving Facebook’s site as well, and you still have the option to get photos from and save photos to other sites like Photobucket and Myspace using the options along the toolbar. The Picnik app for Facebook is virtually identical to the original site in use and function, and a great way to keep your photos fresh and fun!
