PetSmart Dog Training Classes

Everyone knows that having a pet can enrich a person’s life. Pets are great for children to have because they are not only fun to play with, but they also teach your child about caring for something other than themselves and about responsibility.

More often than not, the pet of choice is a dog. Dogs are very loyal to their owners and are always up for taking walks and playing. With that being said, your dog will need some basic training so they can learn acceptable behavior in order to keep them safe and make life more enjoyable for you and your dog.

You can try to train your dog yourself or you can enroll your dog in a dog training school. Most towns have several dog training programs to pick from. However, one of the best and most recognized dog training programs can be found at PetSmart. PetSmart trains dogs from ten weeks old through adult. They feel that a dog is never too old to learn proper behavior. PetSmart instructors are accredited and have completed an education program in canine ethology, genetics, problem solving, and behavior and learning techniques of dogs. So rest assured, your pet is in good hands with a PetSmart instructor.

PetSmart has a variety of classes to pick from. If you visit their website at www.petsmart.com, there is a quiz you can take entitled “Can Your Dog…?” to decide which training class is best suited for your dog. PetSmart has five training classes for your dog based on their age and behavioral skill level.

The first dog training class is called Puppy Education which is for puppies ten weeks old to five months old. This class lasts eight weeks, and your puppy will earn a Certificate of Completion at the end of the program. The Puppy Education class teaches about health, nutrition, grooming, basic commands such as sit, come, and stay, manners, socializing with other dogs and people, and fun games between you and your puppy.

The second dog training class is called Beginner Education which is for puppies over five months old and adult dogs with no previous training. This class lasts eight weeks with a Certificate of Completion earned at the end of the program. This class teaches your dog house manners, problem solving, basic commands, health, nutrition, grooming, and bonding games for you and your dog.

The third dog training class is called Intermediate Education. In order for your dog to participate in this class, they must have completed either Puppy or Beginner Education or already be at that skill level on their own. This class lasts eight weeks with a Certificate of Completion earned at the end of the program. This class will review basic commands along with some additional commands such as heel and stay from a distance, and they will learn how to respond to these commands despite various distractions going on around them.

The fourth dog training class is called Advanced Education. Your dog must have completed Intermediate Education or be at that same skill level in order to participate in this class. This class lasts six weeks, and a graduation degree is earned at the end of the program. Here your dog will learn special games to help them become more reliable, loose leash walking and heeling, how to sit quietly when being petted, and being able to learn skills with even more distractions going on around them.

The fifth dog training class is called Click-a-Trick Education. This class incorporates play into the education process by using a clicker as positive reinforcement. This class is six weeks long with a Certificate of Completion earned at the end of the program. Your dog must have completed Puppy or Beginner Education in order to participate in this class. Here your dog will learn to do tricks such as rolling over, crawling, how to high five someone, and much more. You will also learn the benefits of clicker training and how to use it.

PetSmart also offers private classes if you prefer to have more one-on-one attention or if your dog needs training in only one specific area.

Whichever dog training class you choose to take at PetSmart, you won’t be disappointed with what they have to offer. To find your local PetSmart or for more information about PetSmart’s dog training classes and prices, visit www.petsmart.com.
