Pet Themed Craft Ideas: ‘Puppy Treats’ Canister

If your pets are anything like mine, the moment they hear the treat box they go completely wild. This adorable ‘Puppy Treats’ glass canister is a very simple project that creates a perfect storage place for all of your dog’s favorite goodies. This also makes an excellent gift for the pet lover!

For this project, you will need:

– One glass canister jar with a lid (such as the one found here at Crate and Barrel)

– Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Surface Conditioner

– Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Red

Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Prussian Blue

– Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Kelly Green

– Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Yellow

– Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Black

– Dog Paw Print Border Stencils (found online at Team Stencils)

– Sponge brush

– Artist’s paintbrush

Masking tape

– Soap and water

Paper towels

– Newspaper

– Plenty of dog treats or biscuits

Delta Perm Enamel is an excellent product, but it can greatly stain your workspace. So, make sure you’ve placed several layers of newspaper down before beginning. Wash the glass canister jar with soap and water. Dry the jar well with paper towels. Set the lid aside, as you will not need it for the remainder of the project.

Coat the entire jar with Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Surface Conditioner using the sponge brush. Allow the canister to dry for about an hour before continuing. Decide where you want the placement of the first set of “paw prints” to be. Adhere the stencil to the jar using masking tape.

With the sponge brush, fill in the paw prints using Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Red. Wait ten minutes and add a second coat. Allow the red paint to set for about a half an hour before removing the stencil.

Reposition the stencil for a second set of prints. Re-adhere with masking tape. Repeat the painting process with Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Prussian Blue. Again, add a second coat after fifteen minutes and let the jar dry for a half an hour. Continue this with the Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Kelly Green and the Delta Perm Enamel Air Dry Glass Paint in Yellow.

With the artist’s paintbrush, scrawl the words “Puppy Treats” on the front of the canister jar. (It is okay if this overlaps some of the prints, as the black paint will stand out against the color.) Once the jar has cured overnight, wash and dry. Fill with your dog’s favorite treats and replace the lid!
