Organizing Craft Space

Crafts have become quite a hobby for me. It seems the older I get, the more I enjoy many different types of crafting. Lately, quilts have become a passion as well as tablecloths and doilies. In getting involved with a variety of crafts, I stumbled unto a problem that I’m sure many others deal with. I’d enjoyed beading jewelry and painting dishes. I’d started learning to make rag rugs. With so many hobbies, my supplies seemed to be branching out to all areas of my home.

Something had to be done before dealing with finding supplies and cleaning up messes took over my love of my hobbies. Luckily, I have a small spare bedroom in my home. The room was being used for storage and holiday decorations. With some elbow grease and a little imagination, it was actually quite a fun time turning my space into my own personal craft room. Organization was the key to making it a space that I could work in and love. I was able to find everything I needed to purchase in order to make my space clutter free all at one store on the Internet here.

There were a few important factors to consider when trying to organize a relatively small space into a working craft space. Here are a few tips to consider if you’re going to tackle organizing your own crafting room.

1. Break Down Supplies According To Size :
The crafts supplies you’ll need to organize may have great variety in size and containers depending on which crafts you work on. If you work on large items such as quilts, you’re going to need some very large containers to store them in. If you’re into crafting jewelry, you’ll obviously need much smaller containers for beads and intricate items. Consider size and quantity of all your items and make a list of how many containers of each size you’ll need to accommodate them.

2. Purchase Clear Containers :
While I list this tip second , it’s incredibly important in making the organization work. Being able to see into each separate container has saved me many minutes of time searching and completely wiped out frustration during my crafting hours. Purchasing these containers was the easiest thing I had to deal with when organizing my crafting room. After making my list , I ordered everything I needed by purchasing on the Internet here.

3. Store Boxes According to Size and Weight :
To save time, energy, and your back, it’s very wise to organize all of your clear boxes according to size and weight. While my quilts take up the same box size as my painting supplies, the difference in weight between the two boxes is amazing. It’s far easier for me to store the quilts on top of the paint supplies, considering that if I’m going to be lifting one of the boxes, it’s best to lift the lightest one. By keeping the heavier paint supply container on the floor, I’m able to just slide it out and choose whatever I need from inside. Keep this tip in mind with all of your boxes and containers, stacking them largest to smallest and heaviest to lightest. If you’re going to have to reach up high to get to something, it’s much easier if that something is light of weight.

4. Use Colored Paper to Tag and Organize Supplies :
With this last tip, your craft space should become completely organized and easy to work with. Invest in some colored construction paper and bright markers. Use specific colors to tag each type of crafting supply. For example, all painting supply containers might be labeled with an orange color. Tape the colored tags to the appropriate containers andthem with bright , bold letters. The color coding will make it easy to just glance at a box and know if it might contain what you’re looking for.

I hope these tips are found to be very helpful. They were priceless to me in completing a well organized craft space that was easy to work in. The more intricate the work of my crafts became , the more obvious it was to me that being organized was an absolute necessity. By putting in the work to make your space comfortable and clutter free, your crafting should become an even more enjoyable experience than it already is.
