North Georgia Mountains Fall Fairs and Festivals

Although it’s still in the mid to upper 90s, fall will soon be in the air here in the North Georgia Mountains. When summer does fade into fall, many fall festivals in the North Georgia Mountains be getting underway. Here’s a rundown of some of the fall festivals, county by county…

*Gilmer County—

Apple Arts on the Square and Annual Apple Festival—-If you love apples and apple crafts, mark your calendars for the 2nd and 3rd week of October (October 13-21) when the Apple Arts on the Square and 37th Annual Georgia Apple Festival will be held in Ellijay, Georgia.

*Fannin County—

Wildlife Arts Festival—-The ninth Annual Wildlife Arts Festival will be held September 15th through 16th at Downtown Blue Ridge City Park. Featured will be works of some the finest wildlife artists in the Southeast, with more than 75 artists showing their sculptures, paintings, and woodworking. The Wildlife Arts Festival will run from 10 AM-5 PM

*White County—White County is home to not one, but two fall events that lure folks from all over the region….

The Georgia Mountain Fall Festival—-Mark your calendars to attend the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival, to be held October 12th-21st at the George Mountain Fairgrounds. Popular country and western singers such as Chrystal Gale will be featured, as well as crafts, fair foods, booths, and much more. A Fiddlers’ Convention will be on October 19th and 20th.

Oktoberfest—-Helen, Georgia is a popular tourist area any time of the year, but it’s especially noted for its fall Oktoberfest. You may physically be in North Georgia, but you feel as if you’re transported to a Bavarian village as you dine on German food and dance the Polka

*Pickens County—

Georgia Marble Festival, October 6th through 7th, in Jasper. Featured will be Georgia Marble Quarry Tours, including more than 100 arts and crafts booths. Also on hand will be good food, live entertainment, and a juried art show. A parade and a 5k road race will also be held.

*Rabun County—

Foxfire Fall Heritage Festival—The 13th annual Foxfire Fall Heritage Festival will be held on September 30th from 10 AM-4 PM at Dillard City Hall. Featured will be crafts, fair foods, and music, with over 32 exhibits, along with live demonstrations of pottery, crocheting, knitting, spinning, berry basket making,
woodworking, broom making, cooper smithing, soap and candle making, as well as much, much more! The Foxfire Boys and other well-known gospel groups will provide musical entertainment. Admission is $4 for adults; children ten and under are free

*Union County —

Sorghum Festival—The 38th annual Sorghum Festival in Blairsville is slated for October 27th-28th. Come see how sorghum syrup is made as well as taste it. Making sorghum syrup may be a dying art, but it’s one that’s yet to die in the North Georgia Mountains. Farmers start in early October cutting and stripping the sorghum cane. Then, everyone in the mountains head to Blairsville to celebrate the harvest, as well as taste what is known as the best mountain syrup anywhere. Here at the Sorghum Festival you can pick up a bottle of syrup as a holiday gift. A few of the other festivities include a square dance, a car show, horseshoe throwing, log sawing, pole climbing, and a parade through town. There’s even a spitting contest.

*Stephens County—

The Toccoa Harvest Festival is scheduled for November 3rd-4th in downtown Toccoa, Georgia. It’s a festival of handmade, homegrown, and home backed goods, as well as entertainment, art, food, and fun, as well as activities for the kids. Come celebrate harvest time by making plans to be there.

So come out and celebrate fall by attending at least one fall festival. It’s also an excellent time to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage here in the North Georgia Mountains.
