North Carolina Nonagenarians Cancel Each Other’s Vote

Elizabeth Pinckney, 93, and Gaillard Pinckney, 95, pre-World War II friends, found each other unattached at ages 80 and 82. Despite a voting history as a liberal Democrat, Mrs. Pinckney married Mr. Pinckney, a staunch Republican.

They have lived together as unregistered voters in a Durham, N.C., retirement facility for four years. Saturday, Mrs. Pinckney hitched a ride to a One-Stop early voting polling place at Githens Middle School. Mr. Pinckney refused to be left behind. Here, Mr. Pinckney follows his wife into the One-Stop entrance, determined to cancel her vote.
