Movie Theaters in Tucson

Moviegoers living in Tucson, Arizona have a variety of choices when it comes to viewing films. The city is home to movie theaters that feature new releases to those that play independent films and classic movies. One movie theater in Tucson even brings people back to the past when they watched movies from the comfort of their cars. Recently, one theater even began serving beer to patrons.

The Loft is a nonprofit, community supported movie theater where people can view an eclectic blend of movies, including independent, foreign, alternative, classics, and documentary films. Almost every month they have special features showcasing films in a particular genre. Sometimes, when documentaries are presented, the filmmakers themselves speak after the presentation. This is the place to find movies that don’t necessarily make to a major Cineplex. They also host free film series such as the Tucson International Children’s Film Festival in July, the Essential Cinema and The Loft Cinema La Placita. They go out of their way to foster the talents of local filmmakers as well. Another unique aspect of The Loft is that they sell beer and wine at the concession stand. Ticket prices are $8.75 for adults, $5.75 for children 12 and under, $5.75 for seniors, $6 for matinees, $6.50 for students and military personnel, and $.75 for Loft member.

Box Office Hours: Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Fox Theatre is like stepping back in time. This theatre, opened in 1930, conjured up visions of what it must have been like for people viewing classic movies of the time. This theater was almost destroyed when television reduced the number of people going out to see movies. However, it remains as a testament to history. Now, the theater is a tourist attraction that hosts movie events and stage productions throughout the year. Sometimes, they have classic movie film series. This summer, people can watch movie classics like “It Happened One Night,” “The Great Escape,” “The Misfits,” and “Sunset Boulevard.” Every year, they roll out a red carpet and host Oscar viewing parties. People dress up and watch the award ceremony on the big screen. Ticket prices range from $6 to $8.

The center, which costs $6, is monitored electronically and provides entertainment for children as parents watch their movies. Patrons can purchase their tickets on Movietickets.com or at the theater.

As you can see, movie theaters in Tucson are diverse and provide numerous options for movie lovers. Some theaters celebrate the present. Other theaters remind us of the past. A few combine the two to create unique movie atmospheres.
