Moms in Touch – A Group that Meets Weekly to Pray for Their Children and Schools

With the start of the new school year come challenges not only for our kids, but for moms as well. It’s hard to let go, knowing all your children face at school. Besides adjusting to a new grade level, taking tests, making new friends, and trying to fit in, there are forces lurking out there to turn our children in the wrong direction.

That’s why Christian moms, throughout the world, are thankful they can come together and pray for their children. Thanks to Moms In Touch, International, Christian mothers, worldwide, have been getting together for the last 23 years, meeting for an hour each week, to lift up their children in prayer. Not only do they pray for their kids, but they also lift up their children’s schools, their teachers, as well as school administrators.

Moms In Touch began in 1984 when a California mother of four had a heavy heart for her children—especially her two oldest kids who were then entering junior high school. Crying out to Lord for protection for them, she joined in prayer with another concerned mother. Soon the little prayer group grew to more and more praying moms.

That’s how Moms In Touch, International got off the ground. Today the program has groups in all fifty states, as well as representatives in more than 120 foreign countries. Around the close of the school year last spring, on May 4th, 2006, women from thirteen countries, including the United States, attended wearing their native costumes, gathered for a flag ceremony in El Salvador for the Central American Congress. This gives you a picture of how this God-ordained organization has joined the hands of praying moms across the globe.

Besides praying for their children and schools, the moms also get together to provide spiritual encouragement to one another, especially those moms who carry heavy burdens for their kids.

The mothers devote a solid hour to nothing but prayer—no refreshments (not even coffee) is served. It’s a time not to chit-chat, but to pray fervently for their children and schools. Each group is devoted to starting and finishing on time. If they want to fellowship afterwards, they do that after their hour-long prayer time.

It doesn’t matter how old your children are—they could even be grown and you’ll be welcome to join them. Just come as you are, with a Bible, a notebook, and a praying heart. To find a Moms In Touch group near you, go to http://roster.momsintouch.org/GroupLocator/.

If you’d like to start at group, all you need are some praying moms who promise to abide by the agenda and goals of Moms In Touch. You can find this information out from their website at http://www.momsintouch.org/newdesign/home.htm.

You may be a mom, a grandmother, an aunt, or a big sister—just someone who loves children. You just have to be willing to pray for a specific child and school—someone who believes that prayer makes a difference.
