MLB Playoff Schedule for 2009 Set

The 2009 MLB Playoff schedule was just released. The 2009 MLB Playoff schedule will all get started with the first MLB playoff games on Wednesday. It looks like there could be some very exciting series in the mix, but there is still one game left on the MLB 2009 schedule before we can get there. With an extremely exciting finish to the 2009 season, the Minnesota Twins put themselves into the chance of making the post-season. Minnesota came from seven games back in the standings to tie Detroit, and will now play a one game play-off to decide who makes it into the 2009 MLB Playoff schedule. It’s going to bring another level of excitement to this post-season, which is very similar to the 2008 season.

The one game playoff between Detroit and Minnesota will take place on Tuesday, October 6th at 2:07 P.M. PST. The winner of that game will get the chance to play the Yankees in the first round of the 2009 MLB Playoffs. The first game of that divisional playoff series will get started on Wednesday, October 7th at 3:07 P.M. PST. That series will open in Yankee stadium, and give the city of New York the first playoff series in their new stadium. The Yankees have to be the favorite to make it back to the World Series after their off-season pick-ups, and this is going to be a big over-match on paper. That’s why they play the games though, and either the Tigers or the Twins could still possibly upset the top dogs. The Yankees have the option to shift their schedule based on how the Tigers/Twins game turns out though, so stay tuned.

The other playoff series in the American League will be between the Red Sox and the Angels, with that series starting on Thursday, October 8th at 6:37 P.M. PST. The Angels won the American League West, and will get the chance to host the wild card winning Boston Red Sox. Over in the National League, both of those divisional series get started on Wednesday as well, with the Rockies heading to Philadelphia in the first series. The Phillies will host Colorado at 11:37 A.M. PST, to be followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers hosting the St. Louis Cardinals at 6:37 P.M. PST. Both teams will then play again on Thursday, with those game times set for the Cardinals and Dodgers to start at 3:07 P.M. PST and the Phillies at Rockies at 11:37 A.M. The Angels and Red Sox will be playing back to back games, with both a Thursday and a Friday game on their schedule at 6:37 P.M.
