MLB Baseball Hitting Records

Everyone wants to know who has the record for what when it comes to baseball, so here are the Top 15 hitting records for professional baseball:

15. Highest Career Batting Average – Ty Cobb played for the Detroit Tigers for many years as well as Philadelphia. He had a career batting average of .366.

14. Highest Batting Average (Single Season) – Nap Lajoie holds the AL record of .426 when he played for Philadelphia in 1901. Hugh Duffy holds the NL record batting .440 in 1894.

13. Most Grand Slams in a Game – Travis Hafner hit 6 Grand Slams for Cleveland in 2006 as well as Don Mattingly did for the Yankees back in 1987.

12. Most Home Runs in a Game (9 Innings) – The record for Home Runs in a 9-inning game is 4. This was done 12 times, first by Bobby Lowe for Boston in 1894 and most recently by Carlos Delgado for Toronto in 2003.

11. Longest Game Hitting Streak – Back in 1941, Joe DiMaggio of the Yankees recorded a hit in 56 straight games. The NL record belongs to Willie Keeler of Baltimore who hit in 45 straight games in 1896-1897.

10. Most Game Winning RBIs (Career) – Eddie Murray holds the record with 117 career game winning RBIs with the Baltimore Orioles.

9. Most Game Winning RBIs (Season) – In 1985, Keith Hernandez of the Mets knocked in 24 game winning RBIs.

8. Most Consecutive Game Winning RBIs – The Detroit Tiger’s Kirk Gibson got the game winning RBI for 5 consecutive games back in the 1986 season.

7. Oldest Player to Hit a Home Run – At the age of 48 years and 254 days old, in 2007, Julio Franco of the Mets went yard.

6. Youngest Player to Hit a Home Run – Tommy Brown hit a home run for the Brooklyn Dodgers back in 1945 at the age of 17 years and 257 days old.

5. Most Hit By Pitches – The career record for hit by pitches belongs to Craig Biggio of the Astros who accumulated 285 HBPs over his career. The single season record goes to Hughie Jennings who was hit 51 times in the 1896 season.

4. Most Strikeouts in a Game (9-innings) – 52 players have struck out 5 times in a single game. The most recent was Alex Rios of the Blue Jays who did it in 2009. Rios has done this twice in his career.

3. Most Career Home Runs By a Pitcher – Wes Ferrel hit 37 home runs over his career playing for Cleveland, Boston, Washington, and New York throughout his career.

2. Most Home Runs in a Season – Barry Bonds holds the record with 73 long balls in 2003 while playing for San Francisco. Roger Maris holds the AL record with 61 home runs in 1961 while playing for the Yankees.

1. Most Career Home Runs – Consider this the holy grail of sports records. Barry Bonds hit 762 home runs in his career playing for the Pirates and the Giants. Babe Ruth holds the AL home run record, hitting 708 past the fences playing for the Red Sox and Yankees.
