Little Girl’s Window Treatments

Most people overlook all of the wonderful decorating possibilities a child’s window gives. The curtains match the bedspread, so what more is necessary? Giving your little girl a window treatment that opens up into a magic land of possibilities will delight and amaze her! Think beyond everyday decorating notions. She’s a little girl, full of wonder and imagination. Express that wonder and imagination in your efforts to dress her windows. Purchase window shades for each window. Roll the shades out on a flat surface and secure them so they won’t roll up. Now try your hand at painting.

Using pastel craft paints, paint big fluffy clouds floating all over the shade. Once these dry, go ahead and hang them on the window. Frame your cloud shades with a soft blue sheer curtain. Use your imagination. You can change these ideas to moons, or stars, or whatever your little princess would like.

If you prefer more vibrant colors, paint a rainbow arching across the shade, using darker craft paints. Frame your rainbow shades with a pair of sheer or lace curtains that matches one of the colors in the rainbow. Tie the curtains back with strings of ribbons. Use pale blue and white ribbons for the clouds, or use ribbons that are the colors of the rainbow.

Use glitter glue, and spread it all over the surface of either the painted clouds or the rainbow for an added effect. Both the window shades and the sheer pastel curtain panels can be purchased at Dollar General type stores for a very small price.

If you are looking for more of the “Little Princess” effect, buy the sheer panels in different colors and hang them in alternating panels. (At least 4 panels per window) Buy additional panels. Tie one panel in the center with matching ribbons. Hang this panel over the top of the window, positioning the tied middle, in the center of the window, above the curtains.

You can do this by simple screwing a hook into the wall. Add a spray of matching flowers, or additional ribbons and bows to the middle section, using wire ties. (Bread wrapper ties work well for this and are free!) Tie the curtains back with matching ribbons or strings of matching beads if you have them.

Take the loose ends of the top panel over to each side of the curtain and wrap it through and around the curtain rod once. Arrange the flow of the top drape however you like to achieve a flowing look. This will be a wonderfully adorned window, suitable for any little princess.

Be sure to spread whatever theme you chose throughout the room. Cover the bed with a spread to match the clouds or rainbows. For the princess window theme, add throw pillows to the bed that match the curtain panels. All little “Princesses” deserve a comfy place to lounge after all!
