Lance Bass: Out of Sync with Justin Timberlake and ‘N Sync

Chart topping boy band ‘N Sync was in agreement. They were on a two year hiatus. They were all in agreement that is, except Justin Timberlake. Lance Bass tells the story the way he percieved it in his memoir Out of Sync.

According to excerpts from Out of SyncLance Bass blames the breakup of ‘N Sync on Timberlake’s ambitions to pursue a solo career. Instead of being honest, however, Bass blames Justin Timberlake for pulling at straws to find reasons to blame other members of the band. He accused the band of all going their own way, seeking their own fortune. In reality, all that had been done was Lance Bass and Joey Fatone filmed a movie, On the Line.

Whether Justin Timberlake was jealous, insecure, or just self serving, the result was the same. ‘N Sync was over and the solo career of Justin Timberlake was poised to skyrocket. The odd thing is that it was Timberlake who called Lance Bass to join the boy band ‘N Sync in the first place. Perhaps a little honesty with the group would have been in order, instead of putting everyone on ice for two years, believing ‘N Sync would one day soon make a comeback.

Lance Bass went on to land a starring role in the Broadway show of Hairspray, playing the role of the Dick Clark. Now, Bass is a published author of what some have called a “tell-all” book about his life in a boy band, the music industry, and the story of his coming out. Lance’s book, Out of Sync, is due to hit stores in October.

I don’t look for Lance Bass’s book, Out of Sync, to make much of a difference to Justin Timberlake fans, or anyone for that matter. The story of hiding a gay lifestyle from the world, then dealing with the repercussions of coming out of the closet has been dealt with ad nauseam. ‘N Sync is out of sight, out of mind unless you hear a classic pop dance hit on the dance floor.

Lance Bass may have felt the need to bear his soul in Out of Sync. In my opinion, he will remain out of sync. Perhaps he should return to his cosmonaut training in Russia. His follow up memoirs could be called Out of this World.
