Kenai Peninsula Summer Camps for Kids

Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula is home to almost 55,000 residents and encompasses about thirty small towns.[1] Surprisingly this vast chunk of South Central Alaska has a measly four summer camps for kids, two of which are of religious affiliation and most of which are not well known to the populace.

Solid Rock Bible Camp located in Soldotna, Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula

Solid Rock Bible Camp is a Christian summer camp that has been in operation for over 53 years. They offer camps for children ranging from age seven to age eighteen. The three main camps include the lakeside camp, wagon train camp and wilderness camp. The lakeside camp includes archery, riflery, swimming, crafts, water sports, and other outdoor activities. The wagon train camp features horse and riding training in addition to wagon camp outs. The wilderness camp takes kids on a three to seven day hike teaching survival skills in Alaska. Solid Rock does teach religious practice and requires campers bring bibles. Pricing depends on your selected summer camp package.

Camp Kushtaka located in Cooper Landing, Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula

Camp Kushtaka is an American camp association accredited camp that accepts children ages seven to sixteen with a maximum of sixty-four campers. Camp sessions range from four to tens days and vary in activities widely from horse back riding and rafting to archery and crafts. Camp Kushtaka has no religious affiliation. Pricing depends on your selected summer camp package. Some financial aid programs do exist for the camp.

Higher Ground Baptist Bible Camp located in Sterling, Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula

High Ground Baptists Bible Camp offers regular age grouped camps for ages seven to eighteen as well as canoe camps and stretcher camps. The stretcher camp is offered only for children in tenth or twelfth grade. These kids act as summer staff at the camp and serve along side instructors. This camp offers fun educational activities as well as youth ministry. In the winter months, the camp also offers ministry to adults. Prices are available upon request.

Challenger Learning Center Science Summer Camps located in Kenai, Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula

The Challenger Learning Center is a space science educational association that offers several summer learning camps through out the year for ages five through eighteen. Residential camps include the mars family camp (parents attend this camp as well), robotics specialist camp, shuttle pilot’s camp, and payload specialist camp. The Kenai camp also offers none resident camps including cosmic explorer’s camp, galactic explorer’s camp, and moon explorer’s camp. Finally, the camp offers on specialty five day course from students interested in flying called the ACE academy. Prices vary by program, grants and scholarships are available.

Though few in number the Kenai Peninsula does house some wonderful summer camps for kids of all ages.
