It’s All Smoove Going at Ferndale Labs

The J.F Hartz Company is an oldie, but a goody – and a smoothie in Ferndale. Begun in 1897 and later changed to Ferndale Laboratories, the company has enjoyed a varied history.

Initially serving the medical field by importing German surgical instruments and other supplies from its Detroit location, the business evolved into other aspects of serving the public. Located in Ferndale since 1950, the name then merged into Ferndale Surgical and Laboratories, followed by today’s version, Ferndale Laboratories, Inc. (FLI)

In 1975, FLI went national and began a leaps-and-bounds growth. Using more than 100,000 square feet of space, it manufactures and warehouses products that exhibit the newest technology in health care products, specifically dermatology products.

Today’s focus is on unique therapies that provide value and heal, protect and beautify skin. FLI specializes in items that treat dry skin, dermal pain, inflamed and irritated skin, eczema and hemorrhoidal itching/burning/inflammation. A surgical adhesive and adhesive remover are other products.
