iPhone and iPad Game App Review: Fairway Solitaire

Fairway Solitaire is an oddball form of solitaire that uses a golf theme. It’s nothing like golf, other than the terms used. If you love solitaire, this is a fantastic game, whether you like golf or not. If you love solitaire and golf, the golf theme will serve to take your love of this game to the next level.

The game is free to try, and $0.99 to buy. The paid version can be obtained from within the free version.

Never-ending courses

One of the best things about the game is the amount of courses available to play. It’s not like other games, where you run out of things to play and need to find a new game. There’s a new game available each day, a huge number of courses to begin with, and sometimes new ones added on updates. If you win enough daily challenges, you get to unlock even more courses. There are even options to buy additional daily games, or buy more courses using something known as “Golf Bucks.”

Golf Bucks

You can earn Golf Bucks through game play. You get Golf Bucks for a number of things, such as “hitting” many cards in a row without drawing, completing courses with very few or no cards left on the course, and through winning “Wild Shot” card challenges. With so many ways to win Golf Bucks, there is never a need to spend real money to buy them. The game is fun without ever spending another dime.

Multiple goals

Another great thing about Fairway Solitaire is that there is always something other than just a card game going on. You can win additional Golf Bucks by doing silly things like crushing gophers as they dig their way up on the field while you play. You can shoot for tons of Golf Bucks to unlock an array of new courses. You can go for a “Great Shot,” and fill the card “meter,” meaning you’ve played enough cards in a row to win 1,000 Golf Bucks.

Then there are the daily courses, with a special challenge that allows you to win a special trophy for unlocking even more courses. There are also Game Center achievements, and the in-game leaderboard.

Game Center integration

There is an additional “Trophy” room in the game with additional challenges. When you win one of these trophies, you get more golf bucks. If you are connected to Game Center, then most of these trophy challenges are also connected through there. This allows you to challenge your friends to new trophies, and to compare your Game Center challenge points for the game.

While Fairway Solitaire does not have a Game Center leaderboard, it does have its own in-game leaderboard with even more challenges. You can compete against others to win the top spot for your favorite challenge, and attempt to knock others off their pedestal.

This game has never-ending fun, multiple challenges, and leaderboards for those who have a competitive streak. It may be one of the best games available for iPhone or iPad, especially if you are a fan of solitaire. It’s one of those games that provides mindless fun when you want to take a break and get away from work for awhile.
