IGoogle: Personalize Your HomePage

Wouldn’t you like to have an easy to use home page with all the latest features and full customization? Well let me introduce you to iGoogle. The internet should be your gateway to information and where communication and learning can take place alongside with your interests. iGoogle is a website that acts as the Google brand homepage. The home page pairs nicely with your Gmail Google E-mail account.

The home page of many companies that stemmed from search engines have dynamic home pages full of information such as news blurbs, stocks, horoscopes, video clips and much more. A few popular examples are common to those who are familiar with www.yahoo.com and which offers free Yahoo E-mail account along with the “My Yahoo” page when you log on which can be custom built to an extent where you select categories of information to select from such as what is on television, what movies are out, and news updates to name a few. Another example is MSN home page which has a main page of information links to blogs and news stories as well as the MSN Hotmail free E-mail service.

All of these services compile not only information but the proprietary sites or licenses that they offer bundles together for your enjoyment. Each site has their own version of the same layout it is the affiliates that matter greatly. The iGoogle home page has daily YouTube clips, because Google owns YouTube. It is one minor example of what differentiates iGoogle from other home pages that you can use or that you may currently be using.

The ability to customize the page is very useful and important to me. I prefer to have things the way that makes the most sense to me. Instead of how some designer wanted the information to be presented. We all learn differently so it is important that a site or software be flexible to suit the needs of the person using it. You can move the widgets or mini applications anywhere you like. Think of the widget as a mini web page built into one single webpage and that they all are updated constantly and are providing information on topics that you decide. You can move these mini windows wherever you like and in any order no conditions. If you don’t want weather you delete it and in its place put your daily business news or comedy clip of the day.

There are a lot of scenarios that you can imagine where you could really put something like this to good use. If nothing else it is a lot of fun and gives you a new reason to update your homepage. Many people really don’t pay much attention to homepages in general. I think it’s time for a change. We skip over them because they really are sites that don’t provide us with much information. If it was more dynamic and interesting it would provide a useful service. You will learn things without realize it and eventually will be up to date or a subject matter expert on you favorite hobby. Anything is possible!
