Materials:
photograph
copy of the original photograph
ready to hang gallery canvas (stretched and framed with unstapled sides)
acrylic medium
brush
scissors
sponge
water
stiff cardboard, sealant (gloss medium)

Directions:

The first step is to make a photocopy from your original photo, using white printer weight paper. Be sure to use photographs that are nice and clear. Laser printed images or photocopied images are best because they use toner based ink (ink jet printers are not recommended). Now photocopy the photograph, enlarging or reducing the size if necessary. Your photo will be reversed after the photo transfer technique, to avoid this make sure to print the photo in reverse first before you photocopy it.

Trim your photocopy to fit the entire surface of the canvas. Now begin brushing the acrylic medium onto the surface of the canvas, all the way to the edges. Apply the photocopy to the canvas face down. Using an old credit card or stiff cardboard, rub the surface from the middle of the image, out toward the edges to smooth out the paper. Excess medium will seep out from the edges, just wipe it away. Let the transfer dry to the touch.

Once the transfer has dried, spray the paper with water using a mist bottle or moisten the paper with a damp sponge. Check the transfer by gently lifting the paper on a corner, to make sure the ink has transferred to the canvas.. If any ink still remains on the paper, stop and wait another few minutes and try it again. After the ink has transferred to the canvas, gently remove the paper from the canvas. A slight film of paper may remain on the canvas, to remove the film gently rub the surface with a soft cloth or sponge. The surface should feel smooth to the touch. To ensure your photo to canvas art lasts for years and years, you can seal the surface with a gloss medium.
