How to Style Your Hair for Prom

It is prom time and your hair is as important as your dress or gown. The hairstyle that you choose helps to pull together your entire look. You want to look fantastic long after the prom pictures have been taken so think through the style you choose.

Many girls spend the day getting all ready for prom and having their hair done just right is part of the pre-prom festivities. You want your hair to look great for your big night but to avoid a hair disaster, think about your hairstyle and the look that you want to have.

The first thing to think about is how your hair style will look with your prom dress or gown. Although proms are formal you do not need to wear your hair in an up do for prom. Your prom hairstyle should match the style of your dress. You can leave your hair down and have it curled with an accessory in it like a tiara or beaded headband.

Consider comfort when choosing a hairstyle. Trying to get your hair to stay in an up do when it is shorter will involve a lot of bobby pins and hairspray. Although it might stay put through pictures, once you start to dance it may come apart. Curling your hair may be a better option.

A week or so before, try out different hairstyles. Experiment with hot rollers, hairpieces, barrettes or anything else that you may want to try. This is a good way to eliminate bad choices and find a style that will enhance your gown.

Hairpieces are fun to wear for prom. Every mall is full of stores that have different varieties in every shade. Curly or straight, these can be a fun way to dress up for prom. Girls with short hair can benefit from using a clip on hairpiece to have a fancier look. Make sure it fits securely and doesn’t come off while you are jumping around.

Make sure to either make an appointment for your prom hairdo or arrange to have someone do it for you. Remember that you are not the only girl in town who has prom so don’t expect to get a last-minute hair appointment. Give yourself plenty of time so that you will not feel rushed. You still need to do your makeup and get dressed.

If your hair is impossible to curl or stay in an up do, you can still have a formal hairdo for prom. Accessories with flowers or ribbon braided into your hair can look very pretty. There are plenty of options that will go with any style prom dress or gown.

The most important thing to remember is that you want to have a good time and look good so choose a hairstyle that will allow you to move without coming apart and ruining your look.
