How to Straighten Your Frizzy Hair Without Expensive Products

How to get sleek shiny straight hair

Not all of us were blessed with that wake up in the morning run and brush through it and go kind of hair. My wavy hair has been described as “thin strands, and a lot of it. Okay, so what does this mean? It means that my hair naturally looks as if I just came out of a sauna. Over the years I have researched and perfected a simple routine to tame my wild mane.

The first thing I must mention, is must have your hair trimmed. This is a difficult step for me, because I never want to lose any length, but split ends are not attractive ladies! You can do all the following steps, and end up with a frizzy mess still! Give your self an advantage, and get a trim, you will be glad you did. That being said, lets get started.

Begin with washed hair that has been well conditioned. If you have very dry hair, you can use a leave in conditioner. I have worked in the beauty industry, and I can tell you, that you do not have to fall into the trap of buying the designer shampoos and conditioners, the cheaper ones work just as well! You can also get a spray bottle, and add about a half a teaspoon of conditioner and spray it on. This will not weigh your hair down, but will give you added protection when you apply heat styling. Spray conditioner is also great to have on hand when you have tangles. (I have little girls with super long hair, this is a necessity!)

NEVER take a brush to wet hair, you will break the ends, leaving you with split ends, which you should have gotten rid of already! Comb through it getting any tangles out. With the comb divide your hair in to two sections, upper and lower. Using a clip, (those claw clips are great for this) gather the top section of your hair, and fasten it up. This includes all the hair from the top of you ears up, all the way around. The bottom half, or the underneath section is where we start.

You are going to need a dollop of mouse about the size of a quarter. Work this in at the roots. This will give your hair volume, at the roots where you need it. You don’t want straight limp hair! You want straight full of body hair. Using a round brush, with lots of tiny bristles, take small sections, and roll this around the brush, pulling taught. Using a blow dryer, dry the hair as you pull the brush down, releasing the hair. Always pull down when blow drying hair. Do this to this whole lower section. When it is all straight, give it a quick spray with hair spray for extra holding power.

Following the same instructions, do the same to the whole top section of hair, until it is completely dry. Next you will need a flat hot iron made for hair. These are indispensable, and are fairly cheap. You can again section your hair, or just do the top quickly depending on how ‘perfect’ you want your hair to be. Usually, for me just doing the top is fine, and really just reinforces the straightening just done with the hair dryer. The hot iron gives your hair that extra super straight appearance, and will help it last all day. It is not necessary, but it helps.

Finally, brush through your hair, and be amazed at your quick makeover. At this point you can apply a small amount of serum, or gloss.
