How to Soften Hard Cat Treats and Food

Soft cat treats kept in pouches and plastic jars can become hard if stored too long. Just as humans would rather have soft chewy cookies, cats would rather have soft chewy cat treats that are different than the usual fare. Instead of feeding your feline hard morsels that are supposed to be soft, soften them using the following easy methods. It is possible to soften rock-hard cat treats to make them moist and fresh. It is also possible to soften hard food that for felines have problems chewing and for those that want something a little different in their dish.

Precautionary Statement

Do not add water to soften hard cat treats or food. It will cause the food to become moldy and potentially unsafe to consume. Also, be sure to add hard food to the cat’s diet to keep teeth and gums clean, healthy, and free from tartar.

Soften Chewy Treats for a Finicky Feline

When cat treats that are supposed to be soft become as hard as dry varieties, soften them with a fresh slice of bread. Place the hard cat treats in a sealed container or zipper bag along with a piece of bread. Allow the bread to soften the cat treats in the container or zipper bag for about 48 hours. The bread will be hard, and the feline goodies will be soft and smell as fresh as they did upon opening. Let a finicky feline be the judge. Chances are even the most particular kitty will gobble down the treats instead of giving them a quick sniff and walking away.

How to Soften Crunchy Kitty Food

It is also possible to soften hard cat food. Even if the cat food is meant to be crunchy it can be turned into a soft chewy meal that will remain tender as long as it is stored in a sealed container. Simply place a fresh soft slice of bread or two in a sealed bag or container for every cup of cat food you want to soften. Check it in a couple of days to see if it is soft enough. If not, stir it around and allow it to soften further for an additional day or two. When the cat food turns as soft as it possibly can, the bread will be as crunchy as the cat food once was.

Ways to Keep the Treats and Food Soft

To maintain soft fresh cat treats and food, regularly store it with a slice of fresh bread. Replace the slice of bread once a week. It will soften the kitty food perfectly, and it will remain tender and ready to eat. Do not throw away the bread. Be sure to give it to the birds and the other outdoor critters that do not mind crunchy hard vittles.
