How to Save Money on Polymer Clay Supplies

Polymer clay and the vast array of supplies used in creating polymer clay are far from cheap. For those on a limited budget, the price of this fun hobby can start to add up fast for professional artists and hobbyists alike. But there are many ways to save a lot of money on your clay supplies, both online and off. This article will show you the most cost-effective ways to save money on all of your texture plates, rubber stamps, paints, pasta machines and other polymer clay tools, and the huge variety of clays available.

One way to save money on polymer clay supplies is to avoid craft stores, and buy your supplies online. Wait for sales on the Dick Blick website. Acrylic paints, inks and other items that are often used in polymer clay projects can sometimes be found for a lot less. Sometimes up to 80% off regular prices. Some other websites on the Internet, like polymerclaypit.com and designsbyrainbow.com have pretty good deals on all types of polymer clays and supplies. Craftseek.com is also a good site that finds the best deals around the net.

Another great way to save money on your clay supplies is to shop on eBay. There are plenty of great deals to be found, if you aren’t too particular about what you get. There are folks who start new hobbies, and buy all new supplies and tools to work with, and then find they either loose interest or don’t have the time anymore to work on their projects.

This benefits those looking for bargains, because they will then sell their supplies for a fraction of the price of what they bought them for. I’ve bought almost brand new tools, rubber stamps, acrylic paint, and tons of clay for super cheap prices on eBay. Always make sure exactly what you will be getting , however. One time, I paid for an auction for a bunch of 2 ounce packs of clay, and they turned out to be a lot of ugly neon and glittery colors that I didn’t have any use for .

There are also a few good eBay sellers who buy at wholesale where you can get your clay at a desent price. Just do a search for “polymer clay” in eBay stores, and you will find several good sellers to choose from. Not as good of prices as the hobby sellers, but you will have a better chance of finding specific items you may be looking for.

There are also ways you can save money on your polymer clay supplies off-line as well. Michaels craft store sometimes has good sales or coupons you can use. You can buy acrylic paints , rubber stamps for texturizing your clay, glitter, and tons of other crafty stuff that might be useful in your polymer clay work or projects. I recently bought acrylic paint there at two bottles for a dollar.

These are just a few of the ways you can save money on your polymer clay supplies. You can also try seeing what you can find at thrift stores, yard sales, and dollar and other discount stores that might be useful for your art supply box. Look for things like used pasta machines for rolling out your clay, used rubber stamps, paintbrushes, small jars for storage, and craft books.
