How to Make Your Own Makeup Remover

Makeup remover has become a very relevant beauty essential to the everyday makeup user. Sometimes removing makeup can be rather overwhelming, yet time consuming. It can also be rather costly. Today I am going to demonstrate how to make your own makeup remover right from the comfort of your own home. Are you ready? Let’s begin!

The products you will need include:

-Witch Hazel
-Mineral Oil

First and foremost, you want to make sure you have a small container available. It doesn’t have to be large nor pristine by any means, just something where you can put a few ingredients into. This will serve as the base of our makeup remover tutorial. I am going to use a small, 4 oz. container that I purchased for $1 at Wal-Mart. Remember, you can use any container you want.

Witch Hazel serves as an antibacterial astringent to the makeup remover, making it not only non comedogenic, but free of any bacterial that may possibly find its way into the jumble. You can use any Witch Hazel product, however; for today’s makeup remover tutorial, I am going to use Dickinson’s Brand Liquid Witch Hazel which is more than likely available at your local pharmacy. Remember you can use any brand of Witch Hazel. You don’t have to use what I am using. It is also important to remember that if you are allergic to Witch Hazel, you can substitute this product for distilled vinegar or rubbing alcohol mixed with very cold water. You want to add about ¼ cup of witch hazel into the your small container.

Once you have accomplished this, as you continue, you want to add the mineral oil to your witch hazel. Although most people love olive oil and find it to be a great alternative to mineral oil (and it truly is), what makes mineral oil more appealing than olive oil is the fact that it is less comedogenic, which means that it is less likely to clog your pores. The mineral oil will serve as a moisturizer that balances the skin, allow not only your makeup to be removed, but giving your skin a hydration, as a result. If you are looking to save money, you will notice that mineral oil is relatively affordable. For today’s makeup remover tutorial, I am going to use Cumberland Swan Mineral Oil. It’s not only a good mineral oil medium, but you get a lot, for what you pay for. You want to add about ¼ cup of mineral oil into the mixture.

As you continue, you want to combine and mix up the entire concoction you created which includes the witch hazel and mineral oil. Once you are done, you want to add the final product to a cotton ball or sponge applicator and gently apply it all over your skin.
