How to Make Your Own Job Opportunities

The hunt for employment is stressful and often disappointing. Most people have an idea about what type of job they want when they start their job hunt, but few actually find the position of their dreams. The problem is that there are dozens, if not hundreds of people trying for the same position. If you want to improve your chances of finding your dream job then consider establishing your own job opportunities. Here are a few options that you have.

Option #1 – Share What You Know How to Do

A great way to develop a job opportunity to take advantage of is to see if your local adult learning annex wants to set up a class that teaches something that you know how to do. For example, you can turn a hobby like scrapbooking, knitting or woodworking into a teaching career. These positions usually pay based on how many people take your class. If you teach a fun, interesting or useful class then you’ll attract more students and make more money.

Option #2 – Write About What You Know

Another option that you have is to turn your professional experience into a writing career. There are dozens of peer reviewed journals that have emerged in nearly every industry possible. You can make a living by writing articles for these publications. This activity will not only generate income for you through stipends paid for articles written, but it can also help to drum up job offers.

Option #3 – Consult

When economic conditions are less than ideal many companies drop niche professionals so that they do not need to pay a full salary for a person that they may only need occasionally. If you are a niche professional, such as an IT specialist, an organization specialist, etc., then consider starting a consulting business. You will create your job opportunities by renting out your services and expertise to companies when they need you the most. This option allows you to make a living while you are searching for a permanent position, as well as provide you with new business contacts that can lead to permanent positions when economic times improve.

Option #4 – Blog Your Way to a New Job

If you are digitally literate then you can also blog your way to a paid gig. Here you will need to set up a blog that demonstrates your expertise. You will want to make regular, useful and insightful blogs that attracts readers and that also attracts potential employers. In addition to posting blogs on your own site, you will also want to engage with others in your industry at other blog sites. This will help to (1) establish your reputation as a blogger expert in your field and (2) help to direct traffic to your blog.
