How to Keep Fleas Out of Your Home

When you own a dog or a cat or you live next door to one fleas can become a problem. Once your home is infested with fleas it can be very difficult to get rid of them. When you get rid of fleas in your home you can prevent re-infestation by taking routine care of your home. With a few simple steps you can get rid of the fleas in your home and prevent them from raiding your home again via your pet or your neighbor’s pet. The first thing that you should do is notice where the pets hang out inside and outside of your home, once you find these areas clean them thoroughly every day. Another good idea is to make an appointment with your veterinarian. You should have your pet checked and treated for fleas when you meet with the veterinarian, you need to get this done every time you meet with the veterinarian to keep the fleas out of your home.

You must always vacuum your home when you have pets around, everything has to be vacuumed from the rugs, floors, carpet, drapes, mattresses, couches, pillows etc… Once you’re finished vacuuming throw the bag away so fleas don’t have away to get back into your home. Cleaning your tile and wood floors with a strong cleaner is also a must do when trying to get rid of fleas, clean especially between the cracks, baseboards and grooves. Even though your pets may not hang around the steps, the deck or the porch you should still sweep these areas everyday because they tend to be very attractive to fleas. If your dog or cat sleeps on a dog or cat bed you should keep it clean or discard it if it is not worth cleaning anymore. Another good idea to keep fleas out of your home is to cut your lawn and remove clutter and debris before using any flea treatment in your yard.

Put all food in covered containers and keep it in your refrigerator, fleas tend to be attracted to food that is left out so cover it up and put it away. Screen your foundation vents to keep rats, squirrels and other flea carrying animals out. People don’t know this but foundation vents is one of the leading causes of fleas in homes because of the animals that wander underneath peoples homes. Applying insecticide remedies around your home is another good idea to keep fleas out of your home and away from your pets. Apply the insecticide to the outdoor area of your home and the areas that your pets usually hang around.

Once you get rid of the fleas in your home start bathing your pet regularly with a shampoo that prevents fleas, you can also use other flea control products like shampoos, powders, sprays, foams and collars. Cleaning your home regularly, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and cleaning your pet regularly will keep fleas out of your home and away from your pet, just take a little time out of your day and do these things.
