How to Create Homemade Baby Shower Thank You Notes

After creating homemade baby shower invitations for a dear friend, it only seemed fitting that I would follow up with hand crafted “thank you” notes. After all, who wants to worry about baby shower thank you notes when you’re anticipating labor, dirty diapers, late night feedings and more. In fact, as a practical baby shower gift for my friend, I not only made the “thank yous” but I also provided the envelopes and purchased the stamps. Because I had access to the guest list, I addressed the notes as well.

Here is a simple, yet darling idea for a homespun baby gift thank you note:

Supplies
For these “diaper” cards you will need a few crafty supplies. Start out with a stack of neutral pale green and yellow 8 ½ by 11 inch card stock paper. Next, purchase some large white 12 by 12 inch card stock preferably with a light texture. You will also need a pack of medium sized safety pins and a roll of thin yellow ribbon. A computer, adhesives and scissors are also a must. For added dimension and flair, it’s a good idea to purchase some pop-up adhesives that appear to make an item or sticker “jump” from the page. For additional embellishment, try a scrapbooking product called “Stickles” which is a small tube of glittery glue with a narrow tip perfect for detailing projects with a little sparkle. Most of these items can be found at Archivers, JoAnne’s Fabrics, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or even Target and Wal-Mart stores.

Easy How To Instructions
Cut the 8 ½ by 11 inch card stock paper in two and then fold in half to create cards. Use a computer to print out he words, “thanks a bundle!” using a whimsical font. Use the white textured paper to cut out a diaper shape. At some specialty scrapbooking stores like Archivers, you can have free access to their die cut machines which crank out special perforated images onto card stock papers. My local store just happened to have a diaper die cut pattern as well as a stork and a baby carriage, both of which could also be used for this design.

Next, poke a safety pin through the top of the diaper and then tie a yellow bow onto the pin. Then, adhere the diaper onto the card using a “pop up” product. Round off the corners of the printed phrase and then attach the words beneath the diaper. Use the glitter embellishment to accentuate the exclamation point. Finally, round off the corners of the card to provide a softer, finished look.

Cost
For approximately 40 thank you notes, I spent around $8.00 on card stock papers. Rolls of ribbon can usually be purchased for about $3.00 and safety pins will cost $2.00. Glitter and pop up adhesives may be priced at around $2.00 each while envelopes can normally be found at Office Depot or Office Max for around $10.00. All in all, this project, minus the postage, will cost you under $30.00. Not a bad price for homemade cards and a one of a kind baby shower gift!
