How to Apply Eye Makeup to Brown Eyes

No matter what eye color you have, there are plenty of eyeshadow shades to choose from. It is important to remember not to match your eye shadow with eye color, but rather choose shades that accentuate and enhance your natural beauty. While some are envious of girls with blue or green eyes, the truth is that girls with brown eyes can wear any color they want and look amazing.

Since brown-eyed girls can wear any color, the next important step to remember when shopping for eye shadow colors is to find a flattering shade for your skin tone. The shade is important–it keeps your skin warm and fresh, and even enhances the look of your brown eyes. Choosing the wrong shade can make your face look sallow or washed out if you have a cool or warm undertone.

Here are some eye shadow suggestions for skin tone:

Warmbronze, coral, green, brown, pink and creams

Coolpurple, gray, silver, blue, and green

Now that you have an idea of what colors look best for your skin tone, it is time to apply. First, start out by applying a small amount of concealer under the eyes to camouflage any dark circles. Use either a small brush to pat in the concealer, or use your ring finger to gently pat it into the skin. Make sure you get up into the lashes to cover any discoloration.

Apply a primer to the eyelids. Primer is beneficial to use before applying color because not only does it enhance the color, it allows the eyeshadow to stay throughout the day without creasing. Pat the primer into the eyelids gently.

Use a medium shadow brush to apply the base color to the lids. If you want to simply add color to the lids, then apply the shadow only. For those who want to accent, blend a darker shade of the base into the crease, and use the brush to blend in thoroughly. Use an eyeliner pencil and line the upper lash line, and then gently smudge to keep the look from being too precise. Next, use the dark shadow to color the lower lash line, starting from the middle of the eye and working out toward the corner. This will keep the eye from appearing top-heavy.

Accentuate your eye by adding a highlighter on the inner eye. Gold or pink shades especially help the eye to stand out, while white is too harsh for some skin tones. Create a v-shaped line from the inside corner on the upper lash line down to the lower eye, and then blend in to the eyeshadow. Apply the same highlighter to the mid-brow bone and blend out to attract light to the eyes.

Finish up by curling the lashes and applying a coat of mascara.
