How Lantus® Insulin, and the OptiClik® Pen, Gave Me Confidence and Freedom

If you are an insulin-dependent diabetic, who is always on the go, you may want to check with your physician about the possibility of using 24-hour Lantus®, with the OptiClik® pen. This convenient device is easy to operate, compact in size and effectively administers your recommended daily dose of insulin.

When I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in 1997, I had no idea what an emotional and physical roller coaster ride I was about to embark on. I was scared, angry, confused and most of all frustrated by the many routines imposed upon me by this disease. One of which, was the requirement to take daily insulin shots.

My physician, however, was very understanding and took the time to address my various concerns and misconceptions about Diabetes. He suggested, being familiar with my medical history and present condition, that I try the OptiClik® pen with Lantus®.

The OptiClik® pen is truly a unique device. I love it’s sleek and durable design, which makes it less threatening in its appearance. It uses special insulin cartridges that allow you to dial-in the exact number of insulin units needed for your daily dose. These insulin cartridges (unopened) do require refrigeration, as do other forms of insulin; however, once a cartridge has been loaded inside of your OptiClik® pen, it is good for 28 days – outside of the refrigerator – stored at room temperature. This feature appealed to me immediately, as I often enjoy traveling with family but don’t want to be weighted down by the need for a refrigerated container.

In addition, by using 24-hour Lantus® with my insulin pen, I only need to take an injection once a day at the same time each evening. You can take your insulin in the morning or afternoon if preferred, but be consistent with the time you select to take your insulin daily.

The makers of Lantus® strongly caution individuals not to mix their product (Lantus®) with any other forms of insulin, and urge that you consult your physician before switching any medications or routine treatments of your diabetes.

Lantus® and OptiClik® have made an enormous positive difference in my life, lowering my glucose levels and making it easier to deal with the lifetime support of my diabetes. Thanks to the OptiClik® pen, I no longer feel worried about drawing an incorrect amount of insulin into a syringe. The process of using this device is so much easier than other injection methods. OptiClik® even offers a convenient “how-to” video for the pen on their website at www.opticlik.com. You can visit the Lantus® website, www.lantus.com, for further details about their products, getting started, answers to frequently asked questions and success stories from fellow diabetics.

I hope this review and these products can help you, or someone you care about, who has diabetes. Talk with your physician today and see if they might be right for you. Be healthy, and stay happy!
