Cardwoo.com is a new company that will buy gift cards you don’t use and sell them for a discounted price. The there s no indication of how much you will receive for surrendering your unwanted gift card but it is certainly less than the gift card’s worth.
Selling Gift Cards- In order to sell your gift cards you must go onto the site and fill out information on your name and your home address. You will then be sent a kit ivia mail that you place your gift cards into. You then have to decide whether you trust the company enough to send them the gift cards. Though it is unlikely they will take your gift cards and give you no compensation, there is a chance that they will give you so low a compensation for your gift cards that you will feel ripped off. But once you send in your gift cards it appears to be too late. They do pay for all the shipping back and forth, a further indication that they probably pay a disappointing amount for the gift cards. Once you send in your gift cards and the company evaluates how much you should receive, you will be mailed a check. Cardwoo.com doesn’t accept all gift cards. The site specifically doesn’t appear to want credit card gift cards.
Buying Gift Cards- The site lists the gift cards available for order. Among these gift cards are Walmart, Target, Starbucks Coffee, Sephora, Sears, Pottery Barn, Khols, Itunes, Express, and Ebay. You can purchase a card for 1% off the retail price, which, because shipping is free, is a few cents off what you would pay at the stores. I imagine that if the business manages to survive long enough to get a decent influx of sellers and customers, the deals will improve.
It’s too early to make a call about this business but I think it will either be a flop or it will be a real hit. It really depends on how people feel about giving up that entire cash equivalent when they sell their gift cards.
In my experience, if I get a gift card that I won’t use then I have always known someone who will use it and they just pay me for it. Like I said, it all depends on the people who use the site.
